I sit on the edge of Kakashi's bed, kicking my feet in the air. I traced the shuriken pattern of his comforter as my eyes scan his face. Tsukuyomi really hit him hard. I wonder what Itachi made him feel? What happened inside the nightmare realm? I sigh, shaking my head.
"Naruto's with Raiya, right?" I ask Asuma, who was sitting on Kakashi's desk.
"Yeah. Master Jiraiya is looking out for him." Asuma nods, smiling softly at me. "He'll be safe."
"I need to go and track Itachi." I say, tapping my foot impatiently. "He's going to get too far away."
"You can't just run after him, Himi." Asuma crosses his arms. "I don't care if he was your partner or how close you were. He isn't the same boy he used to be. Don't you see what he did to Kakashi? What makes you think that he won't do the same to you?"
". . ." I mutter something under my breath, looking away from my brother's eyes.
"What did you say?" Asuma asks, leaning closer. A glare was prominent in his face. "Speak up, I couldn't hear you."
"I said that Itachi wouldn't hurt me!" I yell, glaring at my brother.
"Really?!" Asuma yells back, laughing. "Why do you sound so sure?! He's a murderer, Himi!"
"Aren't we all!?" I fire back, letting all my anger flow out. "Itachi wouldn't hurt me! He can't hurt me! Like I can't hurt him!"
"That doesn't make any sense! Do you not see what he did to Kakashi?!" Asuma was standing now, getting in my face. "How could you defend someone who hurt him?! I thought you loved him, Himi! What's wrong with you?!" I push him away, standing up. Tears were building in my throat, but I use my anger to force them back down.
"Maybe I did! Maybe I do! It doesn't matter anymore!" I shake my head, crossing my arms. I take a deep breath, clearing my head. "I'm not defending Itachi... I just want to keep Naruto safe. I need to find Itachi, so I can figure out how to keep Naruto safe. My kids mean everything to me, Suma. I would do anything for them... I'm sorry for yelling at you. It's just that..." I look down at Kakashi, seeing the sweat that coats his brow. The pain that he's in is written across his face. "Seeing Kakashi like this... I've been bottling up a lot of emotion since Dad and... And I thought that... I thought that I might lose..."
Asuma envelopes me in a hug, tightly pulling me to his chest. His familiar scent fills my nose, clearing my head even more.
"It's okay, Himi. I know how that feels..." Asuma rubs my back, resting his chin on my head. "I miss Dad."
"I miss him too." I smile, looking up at my brother. "Dad would have thrown us outside if he heard us yelling like that."
"He would have taken away our dessert and sent us to bed early." Asuma laughs, shaking his head. "Sometimes, I wonder if I would have done the same thing if I was in his situation... Would I give my life to protect the village..? It's easy to say, but harder to actually go through with."
"I would have done the same, in order to save the ones I love." I nod, smiling. "It used to make a small part of me jealous, knowing that Dad loved the village just as much as he loved us... Now that I am a little wiser, I can see that I love my village just the same. I would even say that I love it more, seeing that sacrifice Dad made."
"Couldn't have said it better myself." Asuma agrees, "Maybe I will die protecting the ones I love as well."
"I don't want to talk about you dying." I pout, sitting back down on Kakashi's bed. Asuma laughs, nodding.
"I don't want to either.""Here you go, Himi!" Gai says, walking into Kakashi's room, carrying a large bowl of sliced fruit.
"Holy! I meant just one!" I say, accepting the food with a grin on my face.
"Heh, I figured that you'd enjoy this much more!" Gai says, resting his hand on the back of his neck. "I cut the pineapple into stars! The melons are shaped like blossoms and the strawb-"
"Okay, okay. We get it." Asuma interups, waving his hand. "It's youthful, or whatever."
"Yes! The Power of Youth!" I grin, shoving a star pineapple in my mouth. I groan in delight, shoveling some more cold fruit into my mouth. "You're my best friend, Gai! I love you so much!" Gai freezes, face turning crimson.
"I-I love you too..." He stutters, sinking into the stool at the end of Kakashi's bed. Asuma sweat-drops, shaking his head.
"...It's like he didn't even hear the friend part..." He mutters, frowning.
"I also grabbed an ice pack for Kakashi." Kureinai says, handing it to me.
"Thanks, Kure." I say, smiling at her. Her eyes widen, not expecting a nickname.
"Y-You're welcome." She stutters, eyes flying to Asuma. He grins at her, winking. I ignore him, scooting closer to Kakashi's face.
I brush away some fair from his forehead and carefully pulling his mask a little further up on his face. My fingertips brush against his beauty mark, even hidden under a mask, I could easily find it. I place the pack gently on his forehead, hoping that the ice would cool him down. I wipe some sweat off of his brow and sigh, frowning slightly. I didn't care to notice the three sets of eyes on my back. All I was focused on was the unconscious man beside me.
"Um... So, from their behavior, Itachi and Kisame's," Gai adjusts himself on the stool. "It doesn't seem like they've found Naruto yet."
"... But don't you think that's odd..?" Asuma asks, shaking his head. "They've already been here inside the village. It's easy to find Naruto here... And Itachi knows Naruto's face."
"Shh!" Gai says, pointing at the door. Sasuke walks into the room a second later, looking around.
"Kakashi..." His eyes fall on his unconscious sensei in the bed. His eyes meet mine, worried. "Why's Kakashi bedridden? And why are there a bunch of Jōnin here...? What the heck is going on?!"
"Oh, Suke. Just the man I wanted to see." I say, smiling.
"Nothing's going on, not really." Gai says, smiling at Sasuke. His eyes flash in suspicion and flicker back to me for an explanation.
