Song- On Top Of The World by Imagine Dragons
"If you love somebody, better tell then while there here 'cause they may just run away from you. You'll never know quite when, well, then again it all depends on how much time is left for you. I've had the highest mountains and I've the deepest rivers. You can have it all but love keeps moving. Take it in, but don't look down. 'Cause I'm on top of the world."
I wake up to a noise, like thumping. I slowly get off of my couch and walk towards the sound, making my way towards my door. Someone was knocking? I yawn, opening the door. Kakashi looked down at me, eyes flickering from my messy bun to my bare feet.
"Did I wake you?" He asks, tilting his head.
"Hm?" I look down, dressed in shorts and a red sweatshirt. My sweatshirt read World's Best Grandpa with large white blocky lettering. "Oh... I was napping. I didn't get much sleep last night."
"Oh, then I'm sorry for waking you." Kakashi says, running a hand through his hair.
"It's okay." I say, smiling at him. "Do you want to come in?"
"Sure." He says, as I move away from the doorway. He steps in, eyes scanning my living room. There was a comfortable couch pressed against the wall, covered in pillows and blankets. A TV was mounted on the wall and decorations were scattered around. Pictures decorated the whole wall, things that I drew and photos I took. My kitchen was next to the living room, I could see everything from standing in the kitchen. It was an open floorplan, with a just one bedroom and bathroom.
"Make yourself at home." I say, quickly folding up the blankets that I had just been using. Kakashi walked closer to my picture wall, eyes scanning. There were picture from years and years ago. Pictures of our old team. Pictures of Minato, Rin, and Obito. The old ones mixed with the new ones, Team Seven in the middle. I look closer at the picture, smiling. I was kneeling in between Sasuke and Naruto, with Sakura in front of me. Kakashi was behind me, hands on Sasuke and Naruto's head. We all were smiling, besides Naruto and Sasuke. I also had a lot of pictures of Gai and his team as well. I used to spend a lot of time training with them.
"This is pretty great, Himiko." Kakashi says, admiring the wall. "This must have taken forever."
"It took years." I say, proud to show it off. "I've got pictures from when I was three up somewhere."
Kakashi instantly starts to search for it, his fingers landing on the small picture. My hair was in two pigtails and I was wearing my dad's old headband, which was way too big on me. Asuma was carrying me on his back, pretending to be a horse. A huge grin was plastered on my little kid face, hands tight in Asuma's hair. Dad was standing in the background, clutching his stomach in laughter.
"That's a great picture, Himiko. Look how cute you were." Kakashi says, smiling at me.
"I've got pictures of you too." I say, pointing at one. He was around five, silver hair fluffed over in the same direction. His was sitting on the ground, legs crossed while glaring up at the camera. His arms were tight around his body, tears rimming his eyes. I was sitting next to him, around four about to turn five. I was grinning, holding a popsicle in my hand while waving at the camera. Victory shined in my eyes. "Remember that?"
"..." He laughs, shaking his head. "That's a bad picture."
"What?! This is one of my favorites! Look at you! Do you remember why you were pouting?" I ask, crossing my arms.
"... Because you stole my popsicle..." Kakashi says, grinning at me. "You were such a bully."
"What? You were such a wuss for letting a girl a year younger than you take your popsicle." I say, elbowing him.
"You took a lot more than just a popsicle, Himiko."
"Really? Like what?"
"When you were 5, you stole my dango. When you were 6, you stole my sandals from off of my porch. When you were 7, you stole my-"
"What does sharing have anything to do with taking things?" I interupt, grinning at him.
"Usually, sharing involves a mutual agreement." Kakashi says, grinning back.
"Okay!" I say, holding my hands in surrender. "You win. I'm a big bully that take things from little damsels."
"See? Wasn't that easy?" Kakashi says, "Doesn't it feel better to get that out?"
"Yeah. I've always wanted to call you a damsel.~" I say, smirking at him.
"I've been called worse." Kakashi says, shrugging.
I laugh, putting my hands in my sweatshirt pockets. "What have you been up to today, Kakashi? It's around noon and I don't see the kids anywhere. What do you have them doing?"
"Oh, they're off doing who knows what." Kakashi says, shrugging. "I wanted to stop by your place to see if you wanted to go shopping with me."
"Shopping? What are we shopping for?" I ask, tilting my head.
"It's a surprise.~" Kakashi teases, and, like an unlucky fish, I was hooked.
"Ah! I love surprises! Who are we surprising?" I ask, bouncing on my toes.
"It's a surprise.~"
I gasp, completely excited now. "I'll go get ready! I'm just going to redo my hair!"
Kakashi laughs, watching me sprint to the bathroom. I quickly pull my hair into a bun, a little less messy than the one I slept in. I sprint back out, grabbing my hightops. I quickly slide on a pair of socks and shove my feet into the shoes. After I finish, I jump to my feet.
"I'm ready!" I say, standing at the door. "Let's get this show on the road, Kakashi Hatake!"
Kakashi smiles, walking out of my apartment. We start to walk along the road and my mind buzzes with questions.
"Where we going?" I ask, trying to figure the surprise out.
"We're going..." Kakashi draws out his sentence, watching me hang on his words. "To find you a nice puppy."
I freeze, short circuiting. "What?!" I yell, people watching us with wide eyes. "Are you serious?!"
Kakashi laughs, nodding.
"OhmygodIamsoexcited!!" I jump at Kakashi, arms wrapping tightly around his waist. "ThankyousomuchIloveyousomuchIamsofreakingexcited!!"
Kakashi smiles at me with closed eyes, enjoying my happiness. Once I settle down, we start to walk again.
"What type of dog do you want, Himiko?" Kakashi asks, leading me to the animal shelter.
"I want..." I shrug, "It doesn't matter to me. I just so excited!"
"I'm excited too." Kakashi say, nudging me. "Now we can have a team mascot."
"Oh. My. Flipping. Penguins." I grin, "That is a great idea! My excitement is now through the roof!"
We walk through the doors and to the lady at the front desk. She smiles at us.
"Good afternoon. What can I help you with?"
"We're looking to adopt a puppy." Kakashi says, smiling at me.
"Are you guys a couple?" She asks, smiling at us. Kakashi and I both blush, shaking our heads.
"We're just friends." We say in unison.
"Oh, sorry." She says, smiling apologetically. "Couple come in all the time and ask for puppies. They use them to help prepare for babies."
"Babies?" I ask, face heating up even more. "I just want a fur baby." Kakashi laughs, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Well, you're in luck. We've got a couple puppies out back." She says, standing up from her seat. "Let me show you."
