When a chapter has a * in the beginning of the title, it's a flashback to when Himiko was a child. You might be a little confused if you just started to read this and didn't realize... So, now you know! Let's begin!
Song- I'll follow you by Shinedown
"If I could find assurance to leave you behind, I know my better half would fade. And all my doubt is a staircase for you, up and out of this place. First step is the one you believe in, the second one might be profound. I'll follow you down through the eye of the storm. Don't worry, I'll keep you warm. I'll follow you down, while we're passing through space. I don't care if we're far from grace, I'll follow you down."
┗(•ˇ_ˇ•)―→I lay on the grass, staring up into the sky. The bright blue sky was dusted with fluffy white clouds. I count them and someone settles down beside me.
"Whatcha doin, Himi?"
I tilt my head, looking at my visitor. His goggles were pushed up on to his forehead and his dark hair lit up in the sunlight. I smile at him, watching a small blush dust his cheeks.
"I'm watching the clouds." I say, looking back up at the sky. I point, tracing a specific cloud. "You see that one, Bito?"
He lays back in the grass, eyes following my finger. "It looks like a monkey..." He laughs, scooting close to me. His arm was pressed against mine.
I laugh, shaking my head. "I think it looks like...." I glance around, smirking. "...It looks like Kakashi..." I whisper, watching Obito burst into laughter. His dark eyes were lit up with happiness.
"Shh!" I say, tackling him. I sat on his chest and put my hands over his mouth. He stares at me with wide eyes. "Kashi is going to hear!""Hear what?"
Obito and I look up in unison, a look of horror passes over our faces for a split second and then we stumble to our feet.
"Oh! Hello, Kashi!" I say, grinning at him, trying to act normal. "When did you get there?"
Kakashi sweat-drops, rubbing the back of his neck. "I was here before Obito."
My mouth drops open and then I laugh. I drop to my knees and bow to him.
"My deepest apologies, Jōnin. I mustn't speak about my superiors in such a way." I say, trying not to smile. Kakashi watches me like I'm crazy and Obito tries to contain his laughter. I gasp, resting the back of my hand on my forehead. "I don't know how I am to make it up to you... Might I interest you in a promotion gift?"
Obito sighs, frowning. "Am I the only one who didn't give him a gift?"
"Hush." I say, digging around in my ninja pouch. My hand finds what I'm looking for and I pull it out, smiling at Kakashi. "Here you go. I saw it when I was shopping with my brother. I thought you might like it."
Kakashi takes it from my hands and looks at the small silver chain closer. It had five gem charms on it, a yellow one, an orange one, a purple on, a white one, and a green one. He runs them through his fingers and he glances up at me.
"Are these supposed to be us?" Kakashi asks. I nod, grinning.
"Yep. Orange is Bito. Purple is Rin. Green is me. White is you. And yellow is Minato-Sensei. I hand picked those charms, so you better not lose them." I say, wiggling my finger at him. He nods, putting it in his pocket.
"I'll put it on under my shirt, so it's not in my way." He says, nodding at me. "Thank you, Himiko."
"You're welco-""What's going on here?" Minato interups, tossing a stone up in the air and catching it in his other hand. I blink, feeling my eyes start to burn. My heart rate starts to increase and I grab Obito and Kakashi's arms, steading myself.
"Do you see something, Himi?" Minato asks, voice kind of warbled.
I watch as a image appears in my head. It was a large pile of stones, stacked high. I could feel fear and sadness, but the image left as quick as it came.
"..." I sigh, feeling my eye sight disappear. "All I saw was a pile of boulders. It doesn't make sense."
I feel Minato ruffle my hair and I could tell he was smiling at me.
"That's okay, Himi. I bet it'll make some sense later."
"Yeah, Himi." Obito says, holding onto my hand. "It's okay."
I could feel Kakashi's hand still holding onto my arm, but he didn't say anything.
"Where is Rin?" I ask, tilting my head.
"She is picking up some stuff for the mission." Minato says. My heart sinks in realization.
"Kannabi Bridge..." I say, frowning. "Does this mean I can't go?"
Minato doesn't answer and I feel someone touch my face.
"It's not that big of a deal, Himi!" Obito says, trying to cheer me up. "We'll be back before you know it!"
"..." I shake my head. "I want to go. I'm a part of the team too, you guys will need me.""We don't know how long you'll be blind for, Himi." Minato says. "We can't take that risk. Kusagakure is a dangerous place."
"It was a short one, Sensei!" I plead, a part of me knowing the outcome. "I'll be back to normal soon."
"You'll end up getting hurt, Himiko." Kakashi says. I turn in his direction, glaring slightly.
"I won't end up getting hurt, Kashi. I may not be a Jōnin yet, but I'm not helpless." I say, turning to face Obito. "Right, Obito? I can do it."
"I believe in you, Himi... But..." I feel something slide onto my forehead, right over my headband. "I just want you to be safe. So does Kakashi and Minato-Sensei."
I sigh, defeated. My hand reaches up and touches Obito's goggles he had placed on my head. "This sucks."
Obito and Minato laugh, wrapping me in a hug and they pull Kakashi in too. Their arms held me tight, and the familiarity comforted me slightly.
"It's okay, Himi." Minato says. "We'll see you soon."
"Or should you say," Obito laughs, "You'll see us soon."
"That's not funny, Obito." Kakashi says, pulling away from the hug. I laugh, shaking my head.
"Kashi is right, Bito. You just made a blind joke, to a blind person."
I could feel Obito get embarrassed. "W... Well, I t-thought it was funny!"
"I thought it was funny too, Obito." Minato says, patting his back. "But, we have to get going. I told Rin we'd meet her by the gate."
"What about Himi?" Obito asks, grabbing my hand. "How is she supposed to get home by herself?"
"I'll take her." Kakashi say, taking my other one.
"What?! No, I'll take her." Obito says, tugging on my arm.
"I already said I was going to." Kakashi say, not letting go.
I silently stand in between them, feeling the heat of their glares. I pray that they wouldn't rip me in half.
"Okay, Boys... Sorry, Obito, but Kakashi offered first." Minato says, and I feel Obito let go of me.
"Fine." He grumbles. I wrap my arms around him and hug him tightly.
"I'll see you later, Bito." I whisper, feeling his arms tighten around me. His warm scent filled my nose and calmed my senses. His arms felt like home, the way they held me tight. "You can walk me home whenever you get back."
"Is that a promise?" He asks, watching me pull away.
"Of course, Bito. I promise." I say, glancing around. "Where are you at, Minato-Sensei?"
"I'm right here." He say, wrapping his arms around me. "See you later, Himi."
"See you." I say, pulling away from our hug. Kakashi puts his hand in mine and he starts to lead me away. "Tell Rin I said bye!"
"We will!" Obito yells back, watching Kakashi and I disappear.Kakashi leads me in silence and carefully navigates me through my unseen obsticles. His hand would tug me close to him and sometimes he would nudge me away.
"Where are we at?" I ask, trying to get a feel of the area.
"We're passing through the shopping center." He says, pulling me closer to him. I hear someone almost bump into me and I blink.
"You just saved my life, Kashi!" I say, grinning at him. "That's the 10th time today!"
I hear him laugh quietly and I walk beside him, smiling.
"I'll be able to do your new Jutsu by the time you get back, Kashi. Then you'll have to teach me another one."
"If you can't do Chidori by the time I get back, then I won't teach you anything else." He says, guiding me along side him. "But if you can, I'll teach you something... Have you heard of purple lightning?"
My mouth drops open. "You will teach me how to make purple lightning?!"
"Only if you learn Chidori..." Kakashi says, leading me around a corner. "We're almost to your house now."
"I promise you, Kakashi Hatake, I will be able to do Chidori. Then maybe I will teach you something."
"I look forward to that." He says, honestly."Himiko?" I hear Asuma ask, running to us.
"She had a vision." Kakashi says, "She won't be coming with team Minato on the mission."
"Was it a bad vision?" Asuma asks, taking my hand.
"I don't know." I say, shrugging. "It was too short to tell. All I saw was a pile of boulders."
"Boulders?" Asuma asks, "That's random... Thanks for bringing her home, Kakashi."
"No problem." Kakashi says, letting go of my hand. "I'll see you later, Himiko."
I quickly give him a hug, wrapping my arms around his neck. "Just come back, okay?"
He freezes for a split second, and then his arms wrap around me.
"I will."I feel him pull away and then Asuma grabs my arm, leading me into the house. When Kakashi was out of hearing range, Asuma started to cackle evily.
"You should have seen the blush on his face, Himi!" Asuma says, letting me go. "His expression was priceless!"
I ignore him, feeling my way up to my room.
"Tell Dad that I'm staying home!" I yell to Asuma, waiting for a response.
"Okay!" Asuma yells back from the living room. "I'll be back, I'm just going to run over to his office real quick!"
"Kay!" I yell, laying in my bed. "I'm not going anywhere!"I hear the door close and I sigh, hugging my limbs close against my body. I pull Obito's goggles from my forehead and trace them with my finger. I feel my chest get heavy and I stare into the darkness around me. Why does this have to happen to me? I never asked for these stupid eyes...
