I adjust my Jōnin vest, messing with the zipper as I make my way to the tea house. My hair was wrapped tightly into a french braid and my headband sat high on my head. Den trotted happily at my feet, head held high as he takes in all the scents the village had to offer. I duck my head under the banners of the tea house and Den sits obediently outside, waiting for me to get back. I walk to the counter, smiling at the lady who stood their.
"Good afternoon. I'd like to pick up a to go order. It's six dango and some matcha. It's under Himiko."
"Of course. I'll be right out with it." The lady says, disappearing in the back. I smile, eyes flickering to Den to make sure he's alright. He sat in the same spot, eyes scanning the villagers that walked by. He looked like a tiny guardian protecting the tea house, well, protecting me. I feel someone's gaze on the side of my face and I turn to meet them. Two cloaked figures sat at one of the tables. They both adorned straw hats, tassels dangling down and covering their faces. I recognize the cloak of the Akatsuki, the crimson clouds. Kisame's eyes meet mine, holding my gaze. It was almost like he was challenging me, sizing me up. Part of me wanted to march right over there and give him a piece of my mind. Kisame should know that I was Itachi's partner first, so I was automatically better. I keep a hold on his gaze, even as he drinks his tea."Umm..." The lady clears her throat and I look over at her. She held my bag out, waiting for me to grab it. "Here you go, Honorable Daughter."
"Thank you so much!" I bow my head in thanks as I take the bag from her. Whenever I turn back around, I walk towards Itachi and Kisame. I watch Itachi take a bite of his dango and smile. His sweet tooth hasn't went away. I stop walking, standing next to their table. I can feel Itachi's eyes on my face. Kisame watched as well, eyes wide.
"May you please move your chair, Sir?" I ask, point his chair. It was tilted towards the isle. "It's in my way."
"Of course." Kisame nods, smiling at me with a predatory grin. "Honorable Daughter."
"Thank you so much." My smile mirrors his as I walk past him. "...Fish face..." I mutter the last part under my breath, just loud enough for him to hear.
I hear the chair scrape against the floor, but Itachi raises his hand and Kisame quickly sits back down. I could feel the burn of his livid gaze when I leave the shop. I glance back, meeting Itachi's eyes. Amusement danced in his gaze, a ghost of a smile playing on his lips. I wink at him, disappearing into the street."Let's go, Den." I say, patting my thigh. I look around, not seeing him anywhere. Fear rose in my throat, choking me. "Den?"
"He's with me, Himiko." I quickly turn around and see Kakashi leaned up against the shop. Den sat in his arms, snuggled up happily.
"Oh. I'd thought he ran off or something." I admit, walking to him. "He's getting better at walking around and his curiousity is going to get him in trouble one day."
"He's still a puppy." Kakashi nods, passing Den to me. There was friction that hung in the air and I wish that it would disappear. It'd been a couple of days since our argument, but I can tell that it's going to take longer to wear away. It's definitely not disappearing anytime soon, exspecialy if we don't talk about it. I, for one, am not looking forward to that conversation."Yo! Kakashi! Himi!" Asuma's voice drug me from my thoughts. I look behind me and see Asuma lead Kureinai behind him. "Are you two on a date?"
"No." I answer, plainly.
"What about you two?" Kakashi asks, "You're so chummy."
"Baka." Kureinai says, blushing. "Anko asked me to buy her some dango."
"What about you? If you're not on a date, what are you doing? I thought you didn't like sweets." Asuma asks, eyes flickering to mine as if he can see the friction between Kakashi and I.
"Well... I came to buy something to put on a grave." Kakashi says, smiling in his normal way. "So I decided to meet up with someone here while I was at it." This sparked my attention, narrowing my eyes. Who is he meeting up with? Hot jealousy rises in my chest, almost suffocating me. Why does the idea of Kakashi meeting someone spark such a strong feeling?
"It's Sasuke, actually." Kakashi adds. The heavy feeling in my chest disappears as fast as it came. I'm ashamed of myself for feeling so much better hearing that he's not meeting someone else, of the opposite gender to be specific.
"What about you, Himi?" Asuma asks, smiling at me. "I see that Den is with you."
Den trots over to him, tail spazzing out. I return Asuma's smile, lifting my bag of dango and tea in my hand.
"I just picked up some snacks for Naruto." I laugh, shaking my head. "I probably should bring some fruit or vegetables instead."
Everyone's eyes kept flickering inside the shop, to Itachi and Kisame. This conversation was just fabricated in order for it to come across like we were having a normal conversation. I frown slightly, eyes narrowing at my conflicted emotions.
