Song- One of Us by New Politics
"Is this your staring role, or just a cameo? Who are you living for? When you can't take no more, because when it rains it pours. What are you living for? I don't got much, but I got heart and soul. I've found myself through all the highs and lows. Will you drown in the pain, or dance in the rain? What are you living for?"I'm late.
I'm late. I'm late. I'm late. I'm late. I'm late. I'm late!
I quickly pull my hair into a french braid and pull on my long sleeve navy shirt. I roll up the sleeves to my elbows and slide on my jogger-type pants. I quickly wrap the bandages around my ankles and right thigh, pulling on my sandals and fingerless gloves. I pull on my green flak jacket and tighten my headband around my arm. My Anbu missions had run longer than I'd exspected, so I missed the graduation exams. But I will get there in time to see all the new Genin. I run towards the door, but before I leave I strap my shuriken holster to my thigh and strap on my Katana to my back. I sprint out the door and quickly flash step to the academy.
People were gathered outside, families congratulating their children and siblings. A smile finds its way to my face and I scan the area for Iruka. My eyes land on him, standing at the doors of the building. He was busy talking some parents. I start to make my way through the crowd, dodging past celebrating families. A pair of arms wrap around my waist and I freeze, looking down. A face grins at me, eyes flashing with victory.
"I told you that Akamaru and I would smell you out!" Kiba grins, Akamaru yipping in agreement. I try to hide my smile, faking confusion.
"What are you talking about, child?" I ask, lifting an eyebrow. "Are you confusing me with someone else? My name is Himiko Sarutobi."
Kiba grins, catching on. "Oh, my bad. I thought you were someone else..." He leans in, whispering. "You look much prettier without your mask on, Himiko-Sensei."
I laugh, ruffling his hair. "Thanks, Kiba. Don't tell anyone who I am, Kay?" I ask, smiling at him. "I want to know who all can figure it out."
He nods, smirking. "I bet I'm the only one smart enough t-"
"You decide to come, Sensei." Shikamaru interups, waving at me. Kiba's mouth drops open and I grin, waving at Shikamaru.
"Did you pass, Maru?" I ask, smiling at him.
He shows me his headband, rubbing his neck. "It's all such a drag..."
"Shikamaru?!" Kiba yells, pointing his finger at him. "How did you find out?!"
"I've always know who Alpha-Sensei was." Shikamaru says, rubbing his neck. "She's worked with my father multiple times. I could easily recognize her voice, even under a mask."
I smile, looking around. "Did anyone fail?"
Shikamaru nods, glancing at a tree with a swing. It dangled empty, but it swung as if someone had been on it.
"Naruto Uzumaki failed." Shikamaru says, rubbing his neck. "He was never very good at making clones."
I frown, my heart sinking a little. "That's too bad... Where is he?"
Shikamaru shrugs. "He was just sitting over there a second ago." He says, pointing at the empty swing. I frown and look around for his bright blonde hair. Where could he of gone?
"I'm going to go talk to Iruka for a while, Maru." I say, frowning slightly. "I'll see you later."
He nods, waving lazily at me.Once I make it through the crowd, I wave at Iruka and get his attention. His eyes were sad and I tilt my head, walking closer to him.
"What went wrong?" I ask, standing in front of him. "Was Naruto that bad?"
Iruka sighs, rubbing his neck. "It was a group decision."
I frown, crossing my arms. "That's bull. Naruto has an amazing amount of potential." I say, glaring slightly. "It is unfair to judge him based on his weakness."
"It's not my place to decide, Himi. Don't let your emotions cloud your judgement..." Iruka says, glancing around at the people starting to watch us. "Maybe we should talk about this some other time..."
I glance around at the crowd and straighten my posture. I nod once, taking a step backwards. "Maybe we should, Iruka..."I walk back through the crowd and see a dark duckbutt walking down the street, away from the academy. The Uchiha emblem on his back reminded me of Obito. They are family, even if their appearances differ. I walk quickly to catch up, walk at the young Uchiha's side.
"How did your exam go, Sasuke?" I ask, smiling at him.
He looks at me, glaring slightly. "Who are you?"
"Oh, it's okay if you don't recognize me. You normally see me in a mask anyway." I say, hinting about who I am.
Sasuke's eyes widen in realization and he pulls out his headband, showing it to me. "I passed, Alpha-Sensei."
"I never doubted that you would." I say, ruffling his hair. "Good job!"
He frowns and I smile at him. "Perhaps I will see you around, Genin. Bye, Sasuke." I say, waving at him. He doesn't respond, instead he just watches me disappear.
