Mom had dropped me off for my second day at school.
I watched as her car disappeared when it took a corner.
I walked passed the swarms of children, weaving around the groups. I made my way inside the classroom. Only a three kids were inside because the bell didn't ring yet.
I went to my seat and sat down, taking out a notebook to sketch in.
I smiled to myself because it was quiet and peaceful inside.
I heard the seat next to me squeak as it was pulled back.
I looked up and saw Dallas Winston.
I immediately went back to drawing, hiding my work and scooting away from him. My quiet moment was ruined.
I didn't think he would be here this early.
He pulled out a box of cigars from his bag and a lighter. With one flick, the lighter made a single flame.
I could tell he had done this a lot.
He put it against his cigar that loosely hung between his lips. Smoke started to rise from the end.
He took a hit from the cigar and exhaled, smoke escaping his mouth like a ghost.
I watched him with concern because we weren't supposed to be smoking at school and that a little kid like him shouldn't even be smoking at all.
He looked at me and raised one eyebrow. I shook my head a bit and continued doodling.
"I come to smoke here almost every morning." He explained.
I looked around if he was talking with anyone. Turns out he was talking to me.
"You smoke?" He asked as he offered one to me.
I shook my head in reply. He watched me draw a bit as he smoked.
"Whatcha doin'?" He asked as he leaned to see what I was drawing.
I just glared at him and hid my drawing.
"So, are you gonna talk?" He questioned as he propped his legs up on the desk, "Or you gonna stay mute?"
He said the last question in an annoyed tone. I just looked away, not answering him.
"Weirdo..." He muttered between his lips.
What was he deal?
RING
Students began pouring into the door. The silence was interrupted by chattering.
Dallas quickly burned out his cigar and put it away.
Class was same old boring as always.
Lunch finally came and I was starving.
I took out my food and ate alone.
But then, I spotted Dallas in the corner of my eye. He was walking towards me and some boys and girls were watching.
Couldn't he just leave me alone for five minutes?
I got a bad feeling.
"Hey, Mute girl." He said as he sat next to me.
He scooted close and it made me uncomfortable. He noticed the discomfort on my face and smirked.
"What?" He asked in a teasing voice as he scooted closer. I heard the other kids snickering, "Gonna say something? Oh, my bad! I don't think you can."
I packed up my food and left. The kids were laughing with Dallas.
I hated Dallas Winston now, but I decided to just do nothing about it. I couldn't even do anything now that I think about it. Dallas was strong and cocky while I was the complete opposite.
I hoped that this teasing would only be a one week thing.
But I was wrong.
