I woke up at 11:18 am that day. I cried so much last night that I passed out cold.
I still felt sadness dwell inside of me. I had slept in my dress from yesterday and I looked like a complete mess.
I changed into short-shorts and a t-shirt and hadn't bothered to fix my hair. I checked on mom in her bedroom by silently peeking through the crack in the doorway.
She was looking at piles of papers scattered messily on her table. Her eyes quickly darted back and forth, reading the papers in a dangerous mood.
I knew that when she was like this, no one was aloud to disturb her. It didn't really matter anyway because most of the time she gets so caught up in the work that she forgets the world around her.
I quietly walked away and into the kitchen. I felt too lazy and tired to make something so I just got a box of cereal and ate from it like it was a bag of chips.
I was about to stuff a hand full in my mouth when I heard a couple knocks on the door.
I put the box down and hesitated whether I should open it or not. I remembered that Mom was incredibly busy so I went to open it.
I slowly opened the door so that it wouldn't make a sound. I looked up and it was Dallas.
"Dallas?!" I hissed, "You shouldn't be here! I'm serious! My mom is in the house right now!"
"I figured." He said quietly in a low voice as he peeked inside, "So, what happened?"
Tears started flowing from my eyes uncontrollably, shocking Dallas a bit.
"Dallas we can't see each other anymore." I whimpered.
He looked hurt when I told him that.
"No, I don't mean it like that." I said, shaking my head, "I like you and I want to be with you, but we can't. I tried to explain to her the truth but she just kept ignoring me, I didn't know what to do. She saw my limp, the bruises, and my neck and she thought that you were the one bullying me again, but that isn't true! My mom told me I can't step outside anymore, I can't see the guys, and if she sees me with you..."
I felt so sad that I couldn't go on.
"That's why I'm here, Y/N." He said in a low voice.
"Huh?" I asked, dumbfounded.
"She doesn't know the truth, right? Then let's tell her right here, right now. I ain't leaving."
"But-,"
"Nah, no buts, this is the only way we could stay together."
I thought for a few seconds while biting on my nail out of uncertainty.
"Alright." I sighed, "But we both have to explain. I'm not gonna be the only one saying the stuff."
"I know." He chuckled.
I let him inside quietly and softly closed the door without making noise.
"What is he doing here." I heard Mom suddenly growl from behind us.
I jumped and quickly spun around.
"Mom, wait!" I exclaimed, "You got this all wrong. Before you say anything, you need to know the truth!"
"Get out of our house." She said in a low voice to Dallas, completely ignoring me.
"Mrs. L/N," Dallas calmly said, "I know you hate me and what I did to your daughter was bad in the past, but I came here to talk. You don't have to like me, but you need to listen to me and Y/N. Hell, you can hate me all you want, just listen to the truth."
Mom took a long thought.
"Alright." She agreed with suspicion.
Me and Dallas sat next to each other on the living room couch, Mom sat on the other one across us.
Dallas looked at me and nodded, I did the same.
Dallas drew a deep breath and cleared his throat.
"Y/N and I have made up now." He started off in a serious tone, "Sure, there was tension in the beginning but then we became pals. She also quickly became pals with the guys too, sure they're hoods and greasers like I am, actually they get less trouble than me, I'm actually a full time criminal. Anyway, what I'm sayin is that the guys treat her as family, a sister even. She's a new member and we're proud. They had never done anything last friends with her, me too, well not for me at least in the beginning but you get my point. We hoods aren't entirely bad, we actually care behind our act. And we care for her."
I couldn't help but smile a bit from what Dallas said about me and the gang. Mom's face became less hostile, it was working.
"We forgave each other, Mom." I added, "We put the stuff that happened in the past behind us."
"I didn't bully your daughter again," Dallas continued, "Those bruises you saw were not me, it was my crazy ex who harassed her and jumped her. I found her beat up and I helped her."
I nodded in agreement. Mom's face started to soften.
"I took her to the salon and bought her that dress." Dallas said as he scratched the back of his head, "And then the limp and her neck...oh man...uh."
"We felt something for each other." I said sheepishly, "More than friends, we...kissed."
Mom's eyes widened and Dallas and I started turning red by the second.
"Mom, I know you're strict with me being with a boy but..." I took a deep breath, "Shoot this is uncomfortable."
"We did more than just kissing." Dallas finished, feeling a little anxious, "That explained the limp and her neck, hehe..."
Mom was about to say something when I interrupted.
"But now, putting that weird stuff out of the way..." I loudly cleared my throat. I held onto Dallas' hand and he wove his fingers into mine. We both smiled.
"We love each other." Dallas said softly, "I would never bring myself to hurt her ever again. She...she makes me complete."
I felt warm and fuzzy inside.
The room got quiet. The only sound throughout the house was the ticking of a clock.
Dallas and I waited anxiously for Mom's reaction.
She stood up off the couch and started walking towards us. We both stood up and held our breath, preparing for the worst to come.
She looked and Dallas and I saw her arm move. My eyes widened as I quickly thought that she was going to slap him again.
But no, she stuck out her arm and smiled.
"What a relief to hear that." She said.
My heart had been lifted and I felt free. Dallas' shoulders relaxed from the tension.
He took her hand and lightly shook it.
"Sorry about my attitude towards you." She apologized.
"Nah, I understand." Dallas said, "You're her mom and you care for her. And you only knew about my past and not about me now."
"True." Then she turned to me, "Honey, why didn't you tell me this in the first place?"
"I-I, uh," I stammered, "I thought that you'd kill me if you found out I was with him."
"I would've." She shrugged, "But you two have made up and lovers now, my baby is all grown up."
I sighed of relief.
"But, you're still kind of grounded." She said.
"Huh?" I exclaimed, "Why?!"
Dallas started snickering at me.
"You did those things behind my back," She explained, "Bad things in particular."
She looked at me in a way, hinting about me doing it with Dallas.
"You and I are going to have a talk young lady." She said.
"Noooo!" I groaned.
Dallas kept stifling a laugh at the moment.
"Now don't act so smug, Dallas Winston." Mom pointed her finger at Dallas, which he immediately stopped laughing, "You said you were a full time criminal, right?"
He gulped and nodded.
"I'm keeping my eye on you then," She said, "I know that no one is truly bad but you're still a criminal. Don't do any funny business with Y/N, got it?"
"Yes'm." He responded.
"Dallas," I whispered, "I thought you were the toughest guy around and here you are afraid of my mom."
"I know!" He hissed, "But she is actually scary! Hey, you're scared too."
"Yeah you got a point." I chuckled a bit.
"You want to stay for lunch, Dallas?" Mom offered.
"Oh, no, no." He chuckled, "I can't possibly-,"
"No, you're staying for lunch tough guy." I joked while tugging his arm, "You said you ain't leaving."
"Alright." He sighed as we all walked to the dining room and had pleasant lunch.
