Noon, the hot sun beating down on the fast sea of trees vigorously. A great big armoured truck sped smoothly and silently down the uneven road of the forest, soldiers hanging off the sides and others mounted on motorcycles, following closely. "That's a truck," Kai whispered as they crouched behind trees and bushes, on a look out.
"Thank you for stating the obvious Kai. The real question is, what's in it?"
"It came from the direction of the island. Kind of. Which means-"
"It probably has the orbs."
"Wow this is easy"
"Too easy. What if this is a decoy?"
"Then let's split up," Jisu suggested, "Half of us follow this truck, just to see if it's real, and the other half continue to stay on look out."
"Roger that."
-
The truck sped through heavily guarded gates, which clanked and grinded noisily, as five of them crept behind bushes. "Well, what now?" Kai hissed.
"We need to get in."
Yeonjun frowned at the men, "There's twenty of them, five more behind in the guard post, judging from all those radios they can call for backup at any moment, so if we need to take them we have to take them fast."
Yuna scrunched up her nose, "I need all of them to look at me, and that's the easy part, but the problem is that we have no idea if the orbs will let me...you know."
"Test it out on Kai," Yeonjun suggested. Yuna turned anticipating eyes on the boy, who immediately backed off, stumbling and his feet stomped on a twig, which snapped enthusiastically. The men stiffened, slowly looking towards where they were. "Or," Yeonjun suggested, "We could just jump right in." Leaves began rustling as the soldiers searched through the foliage, three feet long guns held to their chin, as the five waited with bated breaths.
-
A slender figure sniffed lightly, shrinking down in their place as a rowdy gang of soldiers loitered around. The truck rattled and shook, making them like candy in a box.
"Bah, why is the road so bumpy?" One soldier complained. Another shrugged, "Ah well, at least we're getting a pay rise, right?" A third soldier looked uneasily at a wooden crate, "Are you sure these things should be taken so lightly? These are the things that give the gifteds-"
"Mutants."
"-their power, if they break-"
"So what if they break?" The first soldier said sharply, "They're monsters."
The figure suppressed a slight whimper. The truck came to a stop, and the soldiers tensed as the door was yanked open.
"We need to sign in," A man's voice said, "All of you need to present your passes." When the three men slipped out and the door closed, the figure released a soft sigh of relief. The figure slunk out, revealing a small girl. She blinked at the crate, then traced slender fingers across the metal bars. The slick metal shuddered, its feet suddenly propping it up. The girl's lips curled into a smile, stroking the crate as if it was an animal, the crate rubbing against her lovingly before the lock popped open and a single orb rolled out of place. The girl clasped the orb in her hand and sighed again. "So it still works if the orb is near me. That's nice. Well, time to go," She whispered coyly, and peeked out the door, before vanishing through the forest.
