The basketball arena. This was where he was most comfortable, where he could be himself, where he could show his true self. This was his home court. Sweat and pants hung in the air like flies, but Kai embraced this. The shrill piercing wail of the whistle sounded, and the ball came shooting towards him like a comet, and he willed his body to grow taller, his arms leaner and longer, reaching above over the opponent's grabbing hands and he caught the ball. Like a swift deer, he dodged an opponent, weaving like a dancer. A glittering sheen of sweat gleamed on his arms, and an ache had gathered in his leg, but he didn't care. All he wanted was a victory for his team. He just wanted to be valued. To matter. To have worth. He convinced his arm muscles to become more powerful, and he aimed perfectly for the net. The orange ball made its way into the roped net, then tumbled away like it had important business elsewhere. Cheers and exclamations of disappointment sounded through the court, and Kai basked in his glory. He had done it. He had done it. He had brought recognition, to his team, to his school, to himself.
A proud smile was plastered on his face, (wait till Yuna heard this!) but it was wiped off as a sharp pain shot up his leg, followed by a tiny trickle of blood that ran down his thigh, and he scrambled to wipe it away. No one could know.
