Soobin and Beomgyu probably spent the most time at the pier, to avoid their mother, who constantly faded in and out of her psychotic phases. It was clean and quiet, much unlike the stuffy dusty dilapidated house they lived in. A long wooden plank led towards the water, which lapped at the stone banks, fishes darted through the clear waters, which sparkled and danced with sunlight weaving through it. It was a favourite spot of fishermen, but now, while the remnants of the afternoon sun were retreating, it was empty and silent. The twins sat at the edge of the plank in deep thought, legs dangling down, teasing the deep blue waters below. Fishing rods lay forgotten beside them, as did an empty bucket. Beomgyu raised his hand and grinned as his reflection did so too. Soobin mimicked his brother, and they stared, enthralled at how they were a perfect mirror image. Ripples broke the perfect water surface, their faces distorting, causing the boys to snap out of their trance. Soobin's eyes flickered to the setting sun, and pointed out, "We should go home soon, it's almost past dinner time." Beomgyu stands and nudges the bucket and fishing rods. "Do we just leave this stuff here or..." He asked, and Soobin shrugged, "Let's just bring it along." Hauling their items, they trudged home, and winced at the sound of wailing and breaking glass. "Should we wait a while before-" Beomgyu said meekly, but Soobin's eyes flashed with anger. "No, we're not cowering anymore, " He decided, "Let's run away, go somewhere else, somewhere she can't find us." Beomgyu looked terrified but nodded as they sneaked up to their shared room, hastily shoving what they thought would be helpful for survival into their tattered school bags, and slipped away quickly hand in hand, through the dark depths of the night.
