Title: The Heartbeat at the Tip of the Tongue
Type: Chinese Novel
Author: Jiao Tang Dong Gua
Chapters: 82
Description:
The vastly differing world views of the male and female lead -
The purpose of food:
Female lead: To fill my tummy!
Male lead: Art!
The impression they have of each other:
Female lead: Impossible!
Male lead: Too s*upid!
Is there a possibility that you would date the other party?
Female lead: Who, who wants to get together with this peculiar weirdo!
Male lead: Shes so s*upid, Im the only person capable of accepting her.
This is a story about how an arrogant and cold male idol successfully PKs the female leads black-bellied childhood playmate before bringing the female lead along in his domination over the world of gourmet food. The male lead is an extremely talented chef; however, he suffers from blindness - thus, his other senses are all hypersensitive with the exception of his sight. With his perfect sense of taste and his ability to accurately determine peoples attitude and feelings through their vocal tone and their breathing, he is better able to discern the truth and peoples real underlying intentions when compared to the common man.
Thoughts:
It's about cooking.
I actually liked FL's characterization. While she has some plot armor by her side, her hard work is not to be questioned. It was funny as well how obsessed she was seeing the tip of ML's tongue (girl what a fetish😭).
I don't like love triangles, but I liked how this one turned out. ML is such a green flag, a contrast to FL's childhood friend. 2nd ML could have been endgame if he wasn't such a bitch (kidding, in different circumstances)
I quite enjoyed his dynamics with FL, but he is confusing and that only reminds me of some guys I talked to before. Like bro, the push and pull method ain't cute.
FL and 2nd ML have the same interests. 2nd ML may love her, however he was not willing to let go of his ambitions for her. FL and ML are polar opposites, however unlike the former, he prioritized her and her feelings, even going as far as supporting her unrequited love.
(We are no longer color blind, green for the win!)
The only critique I have of the story was hos often it described FL as "not like other girls". I physically cringe every time it gets mentioned.
Ofcourse romance wasn't the main focus (probably), but cooking! I really enjoyed reading this, though it was definitely a tad bit short. Check it out!
There is also a drama adaptation called Cupid's Kitchen. The reviews I read about it are kind of iffy. Based on what I gathered, the drama had a lot of changes (not the good kind) and there were ridiculous plot additions. Since I haven't watched it yet, I don't have an opinion about it, but beware ig?
