Title: Crossing to the Future: It's Not Easy To Be A Man
Type: Chinese Novel
Author: Madam Ru
Chapters: 1504+ (on hiatus)
Description:
After dying from a strange terminal illness, Ling Lan was reborn into a world 10,000 years into the future. Although she dearly wished she could just live a peaceful and uneventful life in her new healthy body, fate had other plans...
Forced to disguise herself as a boy just so she could inherit her deceased father's premium military benefits, Ling Lan's journey to adulthood was full of challenges. After much difficulty, she finally turned sixteen when she could drop the charade. But before she could grasp her newfound freedom to get married and start her own family, a twist of fate results in her being thrown into the Federation's top military boys' school.
With these twists of fate, Ling Lan had little choice but to walk further and further down a path of no return, one of cold and aloof dominance...
Thoughts:
I really like the MC!
Yes, she's OP (I like OP characters), but it's not like everything was just handed to her on a silver platter. There may be plot armor, but she still worked hard and sacrificed a ton, especially with what's happening on the current chapters.
It involves mecha, which is rather difficult to imagine, but I enjoyed it anyways. One of the novel's strengths are the action scenes, the author really knows how to write fight scenes that keeps you on your toes!
My favorite arc were the school competitions, specifically the "tournament arc". Compared to actual war, this arc still had some light and funny moments.
And for once, she's actually stronger than the ML. Romance isn't the main focus though but war/action, and I loved it! This is the only story where I sometimes skip the romantic elements, which is surprising considering I usually need a romance subplot for more spice.
I'm sorry, but I don't really care much for the male lead. He's quite manipulative and his actions on the recent chapters annoyed the hell out of me. If it weren't for the fact that she was stronger than him, he would probably force her to be with him (actually not really but you get my point.) So yeah, not my favorite male lead (sad to say my ship didn't sail:(( )
Idk if it's because this was one of the first chinese novel's I've read, but up to this day I still read every update. It's sad though that the author decided to have a hiatus and had been MIA ever since.😭
There is a manhua adaptation, but I didn't like it. There were so many missing information (example was how FL cultivated in mommy's tummy with Little Four) that was essential to the novel's plot.
She also looks like girly.
(I liked the old cover better because it fits my imagination)
Not to be that kind of critique or anything, but it was clearly pointed out in the novel that anyone could look feminine, even daddy Ling Xiao, except her. It was repeated constantly that she looks ambiguous. And in the cover she has ginormous boobs when she should have been as flat as a runway!
So yeah, they looked cooler in my head so I'll stick to my imagination. Go check both of them if you like (novel's better though cough*).
