"I'm telling you Lory. I wasn't even expecting it. He just went out his way" Alaina laughed while looking at her hand.

"That's crazy" the older woman laughed too on the other end of the line.

Lately they had been exchanging phone calls and had gotten a lot more closer than before. Alaina genuinely enjoyed the conversations she had with Wayne's mother and sometimes it felt like she was talking to an older version of Zee.

"I know ri-" she stopped talking when somebody stand in front of the counter.

"Uh Lory? Imma call you back. I gotta get back to work" she said.

Unfortunately Zee had class so she was working for the both of them at the moment.

"That's okay darling. We'll talk later" Loretta replied and hung up.

"Goo-" she stopped talking when she saw who was standing in front of her.

Mateo.

As in Mateo, the guy she went on one date with.

"What a coincidence. Alaina right?" He asked with a smirk.

"Yeah" she answered, forcing a smile on her face. "Whatchu need me to ring up for you?"

"Uh.... this purple shirt. Sound familiar?". She inwardly rolled her eyes as he handed her the shirt.

"Funny I'm meeting you in a store again. Just like the first time". She spared him a glance before scanning the tag. After that, she packed it up in a bag.

"I see a ring on your finger. You and your nigga that serious?"

"The price of your shirt is $35"

"You didn't answer my question" he reminded her.

"You gon' pay or what?"

He sighed before pulling out his wallet from his pocket. He took out a fifty dollar bill and placed it on the counter. She took it and put it in the cash register, taking out his change in the process.

"Here's your change" she handed him the money but he shook his head.

"Keep the change"

"Thanks but no thanks" she refused. He reluctantly took the money from her and put it in his wallet.

"Y'know I finally got drafted by the NBA" he informed her.

"That's good for you" she replied, clearly uninterested.
