Felt bad for such a long delay, so here's a present for y'all. Extremely early next chapter. If some portrayals for some characters seem strange, that's on me. Sorry :P

Enjoy!

The two students looked at each other as they sat down, a bit worried.

"I-I don't understand," Jaune said, "It was Cinder's fault right? She planned the 'accidents' during the Vytal festival and basically summoned the Grimm right?"

Skye shook her head. She felt like her neck was made of stone, hard to move, and unsafe, "A large part of the Fall could be attributed to the Sentients, which, as a Tenno, are my responsibility. As for Pyrrha's... passing... if I had acted earlier, maybe I could've made a difference."

Ruby put her hand on her former teacher's shoulder, "There wasn't any way for anyone to save Pyrrha. Cinder was just too strong for her."

"Even so, as your teacher and security admin at the time, it was my responsibility to protect you! Ordis even reminded me that my responsibility as a teacher here was more important than as a Tenno!"

"No one but the enemy is accountable for the Fall of Beacon. We've all made questionable choices before, some worse than others. You can't blame yourself for something that happened outside of your control." Skye was a bit taken aback at how well Jaune was taking the news. She knew how special he was to Pyrrha, and how special she was to him.

"The last bit, about Yang. She lost the will to fight after losing her arm. But no one really could've stopped Adam..." Ruby trailed off as she noticed Skye unconsciously rubbing the massive scar on Banshee's waist.

"You... you fought him."

The Tenno nodded, "And I was careless. I saw him becoming wary. I threw caution to the wind and blindly attacked him before he split my Warframe in half. To be honest, if I had only been more careful, I would've won."

For a painful moment, Ruby was silent. Jaune stared at Skye, unsure what to think. Before anyone said anything, Skye knelt and pressed her forehead against the ground in a traditional gesture of apology. A quiet metallic thud cut through the silence, "I don't know if I can repay you. I don't know if you'll forgive me. But allow me to apologize for failing you as a teacher, and as a protector. Back at Beacon, I should've faced you all like I am now, but I ran. That was cowardly. I understand if you don't accept but-"

She felt two hands on her shoulders. When Skye looked up, Ruby was watching her with tears in her eyes. The silver-eyed girl pulled the Tenno into a tight embrace. Skye was momentarily surprised, but then returned the gesture. Jaune watched in the background, smiling.

Salem tapped her finger on the table. She had a few solid minutes before the meeting would commence, and so she spent her time thinking about some... unclear factors. Cinder's mission at Beacon was without a doubt successful in most regards, but the girl reported that the attack wasn't only led by Grimm that night. Strange flying and floating creatures that seemed to be indestructible took part that night, but seemed focused on something else.

And then there was the strange new teacher, though that title didn't really work for her anymore. Cinder had told their group that this teacher couldn't be much older than some of the students at Beacon, but was probably more capable than a large portion of teachers, or even headmasters. In fact, she encountered this teacher wearing different forms of armor and using different semblances. During the beacon dance, she could manipulate sound. In the Vytal Festival, she unleashed a hysterical flurry of attacks, seemingly driven out of anger. While Cinder had been making her speech at the Vytal Festival, the teacher seemed to move so fast she was nearly teleporting. Could this new teacher be linked with the strange creatures at Beacon? She wondered.
