Nadia:
He walked out of the coach's room and stood beside me. Of course, we have to go through the awkward silence until one of us speaks first and that won't be me. Yep.
I wanted to ask him about what happened earlier, about why he got shoved into a locker. It kinda didn't make any sense, cos' usually it's the athletic guys who do that kinda shit. So, I couldn't really understand how this guy here both made varsity as well as managed to get shoved into a locker.
But I didn't ask him any of this. Awkward silence felt more serene than asking him about something that could make him uncomfortable.
"You new here?"He asked awkwardly, almost as if he was forced into speaking to avoid awkwardness.
"Yeah. My dad and I moved here recently. Nadia." I said with a nod.
"William." He said before silence engulfed the air again. I couldn't tell which one of us was making this more awkward but it was definitely awkward, that all I wanted was a time skip option.
"Where were you before? Guess adjusting to a new place is hard. " He finally asked again, probably another attempt to end this awkwardness. Honey, you and I both wish we could avoid this conversation and get on with our lives but sadly the coach can't fucking stop talking to whoever is on the other side.
"Philly, but nah we used to move around a lot. We were actually in Philly for like only a year before that we were in Madrid, before that in Egypt. But I was born in Terre Haute, here."
He looked amused at my reply,"Wow. That's a lot of places, I have never even left this town. What does your dad do, to travel like this?"
"Well right now he is this school's principal, but nah the traveling was when we used to live with mom. She was in foreign administration, so the traveling." Do not ask about her, PLEASE!
"Oh, your dad is the new principal. Cool also I don't think I have the brains required to get a job like that." He laughed, I liked that. The awkwardness was starting to leave.
"So why are you quitting the team?"
He shrugged and pointed towards his hair,"I am not gonna cut it."
"Yeah, unlike what he said it doesn't look disgusting, It looks cool actually. Maybe grow it even longer......if you want to." I chuckled, it was true, it would look better if it was longer.
"Well, thanks. I take that compliment especially when it's coming from someone like you." He said pointing towards my own hair which was probably in the darkest shade of brown and hung around my waist.
"Not easy to maintain, that explains the condition." I said pointing towards the tangles in it.
He chuckled,"Anyway, why are you here? To meet the coach?"
"Yep. I can't do sports. I have anemia. So I came to talk to him about that."
"Whoa!!"He looked kinda taken aback,"What's that?"
"It's like less hemoglobin in the blood. So if you do too much physical activity, you start to feel dizzy and shit. There should be like an 11 but I only have like a 6." I said, over the years I'm kinda learning how to explain this, hope he doesn't ask what hemoglobin is.
"Oh, that sounds bad." He sighed.
No, it isn't that bad. It's just an excuse for me.
"Bill!" I heard a voice behind me, a girl, she started moving towards William, who rolled his eyes and let out a sigh.
"Gina, not again." He said, pinching the bridge of his nose in an almost whisper-like tone.
"What do you mean by not now? You dump me over no fucking reason. Do I not even deserve to know why you did it?" The girl, who is Gina who is also William's ex, said in an anger-filled voice.
