After the previous night, I'd realised something.

I could not, for the life of me, stop thinking about him and it was a pointless exercise to even try, but there was still no way that I was going to his class.

Even if I felt like my body was on fire from last night and even though I wanted to taste him properly- not just in a damn realistic vision- I was still adamant not to give in.

And seemingly, my third rejection was the last.

I looked up at the clock on the wall above the door of Conrad's study. It was half past nine and there was still no Persephone or Hypnos to scold me. There was no Opis, bearing a posh new gift. It seemed Thanatos had given up.

Am I free from all of this? I wondered how long it would take before my body didn't react to the mere sound of his name and my heart didn't skip a beat whenever I accidentally thought of his voice. Probably a while, but I was willing to go through the pain if it meant that I could keep my sanity afterwards.

The small study was peaceful and quiet. I was alone for the morning. Conrad and Samaria both had classes to teach, whereas Alexus was occupied with business in Tundra. I was finally left alone to train in peace; the only bother being my own pestering thoughts.

He was honestly like a bad migraine; it was so difficult to get him out of my system.

My eyes skimmed the spell for the third time and I lifted my hands up to try again. I was done with all four magic fields; Blood magic was the only thing stopping me from graduating with a distinction and finally falling into the training schedule for the position of Archmage alongside Alexus.

The spell I was attempting was technically not allowed to be performed without any supervising mage, but I just wanted to 'test' it. That was all.

It was a trick that involved bending electricity, which was the fifth and final element. Air, water, fire and earth could be mastered alongside the four other magical fields, but electricity was linked solely to Blood magic. It had a minimal involvement with the other crafts and could only be moulded by talented and skilled mages, whom all had to have a substantial background in Blood magic.

I was concentrating really hard to keep my hands steady as I lifted a lit candle into the air. There was energy laced into the burning wick, but it took precision to lure it out. My eyes were focused on the flame; my heart beating with a slow rhythm.

With the might of thunder, a tear ripped into the space between my desk and the door leading out into the hallway.

My hands buckled and the energy shot out of the candle like a bullet and grazed the side of my cheek. I ducked down out of instinct and pushed away the chair.

With wide, shocked eyes, I watched as the tear in space widened, until it was nearly as high as the ceiling.

It was pitch black with silver flecked stars.
