Sophie left the boys out in the courtyard before any of them could say anything else. Although she was trying to act like it was nothing, her heart was pounding and the butterflies in her stomach were fluttering. Fred Weasley just asked her to the Yule Ball.
"Are you not going to go in?" Harry laughed from beside her.
"Sorry yeah." She shook her head and walked into the classroom, Ron and Harry beside her. She took her seat beside Seamus and pulled her book from her bag.
Defence against the dark arts class was one of Sophie's least favourite, she never blamed the actually subject just the teacher. Every time he spoke or even looked at the girl her stomach turned and she got horrible goose bumps. Something wasn't right with that teacher and she couldn't put her finger on why.
"Hey Soph." Seamus said in his heavy Irish accent as she took a seat beside him. "You got a date to the ball yet?"
The Yule Ball was at the end of the week. That was great an all but that only meant Sophie would have to go back to the Dursleys for the holidays, or. No it was a stupid idea, and it wasn't even like he'd say yes. I mean she never wrote back.
She shook the thought away and smiled. "Hey, yeah i do actually. How about you?" She asked turning the page to todays lesson.
"Lavender." He chuckled. "But as friends."
Sophie nodded along while Seamus talked about how he asked her she could see in the corner of her eye Ron and Harry mumbling to each other. Probably how nether of them have dates.
"Today." Moody started stalking into the room. "We will look into using the Imperious curse." Moody had been talking about using the curse on students for a while now but nobody thought he'd actually get round to doing it. Why wouldn't Dumbledore stop him? Surely it wasn't right to use this spell of children. "Line up and we will get started."
"Come on Soph." Seamus nudged the girl who had frozen in her seat. "It'll only last two seconds." He tried reassuring but you could see he was a little frightened too.
Sophie stood as far back as she could but instead of people fighting for the front place they were almost fighting for the back. Harry had let Sophie stand a place behind him who was four places from the end. She watched the clock the entire time not leaving it's gaze, it had ticked and ticked and ticked. Ten minutes till the end of the lesson Sophie thought she could make it. Five minutes and much to her dismay, her name was called.
"Potter. Sophie." Moody bellowed.
Sophie left the line and stood by the window just in view of the teacher and in reach of his wand. She always felt frightened in front of this teacher, ever since his first day but this was something else. He stood there with a smirk aiming is wand directly at her, he wasn't soft about it at all. It felt incredibly familiar to Sophie. The position she was in. She looked deeply at his face thinking hard, and then it hit her. This reminded her of the time she was hit with the killing curse, at the Quidditch world cup. But why? That was a completely different person, right?
She had been thinking too much. Too much to realise that he had already cast his spell and that he was telling her what to do but she didn't hear him. She didn't feel it ether.
"Miss Potter!" He roared snapping her away from her thoughts. "Spin." He said aiming his wand higher.
Sophie stood there for a minute waiting for it to happen but nothing did. She felt all the students eyes lasering through her but she didn't have the courage to say anything, to her classmates or the teacher. What was she supposed to say.
The bell rang and the teacher dismissed the students for lunch. Sophie quickly fled the room, joined with Hermione, Ron and Harry and they made their way to the hall non of them saying a word to her about what had just happened.
