The day went by slower than usual; Sophie had struggled paying attention in nearly all her classes, she was sat beside Mason in one and he was having a full-on conversation with the back of her head unaware she could not hear a word he was saying. Class after that she did the same with Hermione, then Ron and Draco up until lunch when she finally resurfaced and listened to the conversation going on around her.
"And I told mum as usual your more than welcome to stay with us this summer." Ron said between mouthfuls.
"Ron please will you stop saying that." Sophie groaned into her hands. Something felt off today, a weird silence floated around the castle, Sophies stomach was turning more ways then thought possible the hairs on her arms were stuck up straight and goosebumps caressed her body. "He can't."
"Right, right sorry." He mumbled shoving a spoon full of cereal in his already full mouth. "Why didn't you listen to Harry yesterday?"
Sophie once again groaned into her palms staring down at her feet below the table, this was something she didn't want to discuss. "Because I knew what he was going to say."
"No Sophie you don't understand he's no who he says he is!" Harry added throwing his hands around like a maniac. "Masons a-
Sophie cut her brother off throwing a bread roll into his mouth. "Shut up idiot." She said rolling her eyes and catching a glimpse of the boy staring directly at her from the Hufflepuff table. She quickly pulled an empty piece of parchment from her bag and began to write quickly before passing it over to out brother.
Be quiet for Merlin's sake, I know everything. Are you trying to get me killed.
"Oh." He said holding the parchment in front of him before scratching the back of his neck nervously. "Why didn't you say anything?"
Sophie didn't answer she nodded her head slightly to the teachers table where a certain grey-haired man was already looking down at them with a smile, a small twinkle in his eyes.
"What's going on?" Hermione asked closing the book she was reading. "What are you two talking about?"
"Hippogriffs"
"Grindylows."
"Gryindylows"
"Hippogriffs"
"Right." Hermione nodded raising her eyebrows. "Anyway I have ancient runes, I'm off I'll catch you all in the common room."
"See you." Ron said watching the girl up until she left the hall. "Right Harry were in Herbolody where are you Soph?"
"Potions." She sulked standing up and gathering her things. "I'll see you guys later" and off she went. Sophie was sulking all the way to her classroom not only because It was potions but because she couldn't help but feel something was off, like there was someone watching her, creeping from the shadows ready to pounce whenever she turned a-
"Sophie!" Masons voice made her jump, nearly falling back into the cold wall beside her, her ears were filled with the giggles from her two friends. "You're a bit jumpy today" he laughed.
"Sorry." She mumbled crossing her arms tightly and entering Professor Slughorns classroom Draco and Mason in tow. The trio squeezed their way through a small crowd and sat down at the back off the classroom.
"Mr Vanity, no matter how good you are at potions you will not sit my class twice in a day, go on now your with Professor Sinistra." Slughorn voiced walking past the table where Mason was hiding behind his friends.
"Your no fun Sluggy." He pouted standing up from his seat. "You alright Soph you seem a little odd?" He asked before leaving the classroom.
"Yeah, fine." She faked a smile.
