S I X T E E N

I spent the next 3 days of the recess hiding under the covers, alternating between my couch and the bed. I just emerged from my comfortable escape universe provided by Parks and Recreation to eat and take showers. My phone got discharged at some point in that time, but it was my connection to the outside world and I was not interested in the outside world beyond my terrace, the corner of the world from which I can see the sky.

When my doorbell rang I was brought back from a trance that I didn't even know I was in. I was watching Pride and Prejudice and cried copiously in random parts. I thought that story was too familiar for me.

"Hello?" I asked into the intercom.

"Babe, you're alive!" Evi's voice filled the room.

"I'm..."

"Open for us, Roos!" I heard Maud's voice now.

I pressed the button that opened the front door and unlocked the lock on my apartment, leaving the door ajar for them to enter through when they arrived. From there I went to my room to put on some clothes. I don't usually dress when I'm home alone.

To my surprise, as I put on my shirt, I heard several voices come into my apartment. Upon returning to the entrance hall they were all there. Tulip, Lotte, Grietje, Maud and Evi.

"What a party!" I exclaimed, feeling invaded.

"We are celebrating that you are alive." Tulip pulled me into a hug.

"But why?" I followed them into my own living room after they all removed their coats and shoes.

"You haven't spoken to us since you said in the group chat that you were going out to eat." Lotte explained.

"Ah..."

"Dirk even pissed Yoongi off, trying to find out if he knew about you." Maud had a wicked smile on her face.

"Hm?" Her comment made me curious.

"Turn on your cell phone and then read the group... Yoongi needed to use harsh words to tell Dirk that he hasn't spoken to you since the first day of the ywar and that he's not living a secret romance with you. Dirk is devastated, he had already bought his bridesmaid's dress to your wedding." Evi laughed when she finished speaking, as if the whole situation was very funny.

"But you really haven't seen him since you left my house?" Maud spoke again.

"No, I saw him later, yes."

"Ah ha!" Tulip chuckled.

"He met me at Sultan's that night."

"How did he know you were going to Sultan's?" Lotte finally spoke, her silence was bothering me.

"He asked me in private, after I told the group that I was going out to eat."

"Hm..."

"What's your problem with Yoongi?" I asked, showing my discomfort.

"Mine? I... I think he's not good for you right now."

"Right now? Are you talking about my mental health?" I lowered my voice, but somehow, my tone was worse than if I had screamed. She looked at me a little scared and then looked away.

"What about Roos's mental health, Lotte? She's fine! Medicated and undergoing therapy. She is an adult woman, able to make her own choices and deal with the consequences." Grietje defended me.
