I always thought it was too cruel to have to go back to work after the New Year's break in the cold of January. I spent the day reading my e-mails, attending meetings and organizing the new material I was going to work on.

I arrived early at the PH and locked my bike and went to the cafe across the street. My ritual was well established and while I ate my krokette I saw him coming through the window. He stopped next to the bike rack for a few moments, entered the bar and seconds later resurfaced on the sidewalk. He looked around and then crossed the street, coming straight to me.

"Aren't you talking to me?" His eyes were on me when he approached.

"My cell phone died."

"And it's been dead since Wednesday?"

"Yes."

"Did you lose your charger?"

"No?"

Without saying anything more, he turned his back to me and walked out the door through which he had entered a few moments before. I saw him cross the street again and stop in front of the bar, light a cigarette and smoke it while looking inside through one of the windows. He put the butt out on the wall, as usual, threw it at the dispenser and went inside.

Sometime later I saw Lotte and Dirk arrive as well. I wasn't ready to be alone with them and so I kept waiting for most of my friends to arrive.

When I finally met them at our captive table at the back of the bar, I noticed that Yoongi wasn't there. A while later I saw him by the counter, talking to other people. He spent the night there and I didn't find him smoking outside on any of the times that I went outside to do the same.

I left early and while I got my bike off the bike rack I saw Nanook talking to another girl.

After taking a shower I searched for my phone around the house, after leaving it lost for four days.

I plugged it into the charger and went to raid the refrigerator. When I turned on the device, it convulsed from so many notifications that arrived at the same time.

I opened my WhatsApp and selected all group conversations and marked them as read. I didn't have the energy to read all those loads of messages. I started opening individual conversations and seeing if there was anything I would need to answer. And then I came to my conversation with Yoongi.
