I got off the bike in front of my building and stuck it on the public bike rack in front of the store next door because I still wanted to go out later. It was my second to last day at RTL, finally, and I felt close to a much-desired freedom. I felt light. I still had one more week to go before I started at the new place and planned to get some rest.

I rummaged in my pockets as I walked down the driveway and with the keys in hand I realized that someone was sitting on the steps to the front door.

"What are you doing here?"

"Did you block my number?" He asked me, getting up.

"No. What's the use? You're always in the same places I am."

"I tried to call you a few times, but it always goes to voicemail."

"It has been out of battery for a few days." It was actually more than a week by now.

"I wanted to talk to you about some things." He announced.

"I don't want to know."

"Please, Roos. You have been keeping me from talking to you for over six months." He started.

I didn't answer him.

"I broke up with Jimin." He said, trying to read my face.

"I know."

"How?"

"I heard Lotte tell Evi and Maud the day they all went to dinner at their place."

"I thought you didn't go, from the texts in the group chat."

"I went and listened to their conversation as soon as I arrived. And then I left without anyone seeing me." He watched me, still trying to decipher my face. "Is that what you had to tell me? You can go now."

"No, it was not." He spoke, firmly. "I heard everything you said to me since we broke up and I've been thinking a lot. At first I wanted to talk to you, for me. But now I think we need to have this conversation for the sake of both of us."

His look on mine was a plea. I looked at his face and wondered how long he would continue with this if I didn't agree to speak to him once and for all.

I was closing the door on a past of pain at work. Maybe it would be good to finally close this door with him too.

I saw his whole body tense in front of me and I decided to accept it. I decided to listen to what he had to say to me.

"Come up with me." I said and walked past him to open the door.

He went up quietly behind me and said nothing even when we entered the apartment. I tried not to watch him as he took off his faux leather jacket and sneakers.

Still in silence, he followed me into the living room and stood looking at the room with a sad look. The last time he was here was when we broke up. I noticed this as I opened the door to the terrace. I took a cigarette out of its pack in my pants pocket and sat on the step to the terrace, reaching for the ashtray and lighter on the coffee table.

"You can sit where it's most comfortable for you." I said before lighting the flame in front of my face.

His gaze continued to wander the room and he seemed to have decided. He took a few steps towards me.
