Miles's POV
After stopping quickly for gas almost an hour ago, I dug through the trunk for a blanket, and thankfully, I found one. Madison has been asleep for almost an hour and a half and removing the ice cream stick from her hand proved to be more difficult than I thought.
But after throwing it in the trash, moving the half-eaten basket in the backseat, and putting a blanket over her, I'm back on the road—the empty and dark road.
The white lines of the road are barely visible but yet somehow, I can make them out perfectly. The tires run fast on the road and it doesn't take as long to reach Washington as someone might think. Considering that I'm driving twice the speed limit and staying awake through the whole night while doing it. It's six am when I finally arrive to the WSU parking lot.
I open the door to Madison's side, trying not to let the cold reach through her blanket as I grab her into my arms, slam the door closed with my foot and walk her through the six am night. Small pebbles rattle under my feet before I reach the frozen grass, hearing the swooshing off the snow beneath my wet vans.
I finally reach the dorms and the yellow lighting in the hallway greets me in a fucked up way. I'm thankful no one is around, the last thing I'd need would be questions about why I'm carrying an asleep Madison in my hands.
I try her dorm but it's locked so instead, I try her pockets and thankfully the key is there, I rattle at the door before finally managing to hold her in my arms, dig for a key and open the damn door and right as I do, I'm greeted by an awake Stephanie.
Her arms are folded and she's staring right at me with narrowed eyes. I place Madison carefully on her bedside before looking at Stephanie.
"What the fuck?" I whisper.
"How the fuck did you—" I start but she stops me, "I know the sound of you trying to sneak in somewhere." She mumbles and I roll my eyes.
"Whatever, I'm leaving," I say but she tugs at my jacket.
"What is going on with you two?" She questions and I pull a smirk.
"She fell asleep in my car, it's not a big deal," I say before carefully grabbing my spare jacket off Madison's lap. Stephanie doesn't need to know that we just broke up, she doesn't need to know that I fucked up. It's none of her business.
"Don't wake her," I say before turning around.
"Miles?" her voice is soft in the air. I turn around to look at her soft features.
"Thank you." She smiles and I turn back around, exiting the damn dorm. My feet take me slowly through the lit hallway as I make my way outside, thinking about nothing but how different we are. I've never given marriage too much thought but the idea has always scared me, not being able to leave, being tied up and settled down has never appealed to me.
And having some of my own screaming children who run around, draw on walls and cry all day is something I've never strived for. It isn't ideal and it's something I never wanted and never want.
"Fuck." I breathe at this fucking chaos. Madison was right, we couldn't be more wrong for each other.
Madison's POV
I lightly open my eyes, taking a deep breath before sitting up and holding a blanket tight to my chest. It takes me a few minutes to realize where I am—my dorm. I look around to see no one on the other bed, Stephanie must still be at her parent's house.
I take another deep breath before gulping down everything from yesterday. I didn't realize I fell asleep, that's the last thing I wanted. I wanted to spend time with Miles, to be with him, talk it out somehow but as I sit on my thick mattress, I realize that there's nothing to solve.
