Kol's hand laid on top of Lydia's stomach as he held onto her hand tightly, afraid to let go but he knew he would have to soon, he could already feel the warmth beginning to leave her body. He stared at her with shame in his eyes. None of this should have happened. He should have protected her. It was his one responsibility and the only he ever took seriously, but he failed at it. He failed her. There was nothing more he wanted than to see her open her eyes, to hear her take a breath or to sit up in her spot, but she never did. Her eyelids remained closed and Kol wished he could see them one last time, but it wouldn't matter. There would be no life in them. Lydia wouldn't be in them.

Kol didn't even remember how they got here. Back in the manor with Lydia laying on the couch and him kneeling in front of it. He recalled Jeremy and Elena protesting as he picked her up in his arms and flashed out of the house, but he didn't care about them. They were lucky he didn't kill them where they stood.

"Kol?" A quiet voice spoke up from over by the entrance to the living room and soon Kol felt a hand on his shoulder and someone kneeling down next to him. From the blonde hair he could see out of the corner of his eyes, he could tell it was Rebekah.

Rebekah closed her eyes and sighed after looking at Lydia's body. She had heard that Lydia had been killed, but she didn't think it was real until she saw her body. Rebekah truly enjoyed getting to know Lydia. Lydia always treated her like she was a normal person even after she learned the truth about her, Lydia never treated her any different. Lydia was kind to her. She would miss that. Miss her.

"I'm so sorry," Rebekah mumbled, wrapping an arm around Kol's shoulders, attempting to comfort him.

Kol opened his mouth to speak but he couldn't quite get the words out. His mouth felt dry and when he tried to speak, nothing but a small sob escaped his lips which only caused Rebekah to pull him closer to her."We. . . We were going to leave town again today. We should have left. I should never have brought her back in the first place."

"It's not your fault, Kol," Rebekah whispered soothingly, trying to comfort her older brother but in all honesty she wasn't sure how. She hadn't seen Kol cry since they were children and even then, because she was younger it was typically Klaus or Elijah who comforted him.

"For the love of god, stop crying," Klaus sounded annoyed as he walked into the living room, making sure his presence was known.

"Nik!" Rebekah gasped, snapping her head in his direction."I know that compassion is not your strong suit but could you at least try to have some for our brother, please. Either that or leave."

"I come baring good news, sister," Klaus brushed off his younger sister's comments."I received a message from Caroline who received one from Matt. Apparently, Lydia drank Kol's blood to heal a head injury an hour ago. She will be fine."
