Lydia took a deep breath, inhaling the crisp forest air. If anyone knew Lydia, they would think that she wouldn't like the forest. And she didn't. She was terrified of it. All the tall trees that made it difficult to see if anything was following her, the dangerous animals that could jump out at her. Depending on where you were, it could be dark, even if it was daytime, and at night? It was pitch black. Lydia would rather be anywhere else in the world than he in the forest.

But there was one place that she went. When she was at the bridge, she didn't feel alone or scared. She felt like she had entered another world. One that was just hers and Kol's. No one else's. Even if she was by herself, all the time she spent here with Kol, all the memories they built together, she could feel them. They embraced her when she was there, made her feel warm and protected, just like she did when she was with Kol.

Which was why when Lydia decided she was going to try to contact Kol the next day, she knew she had to come here. This was where her connection to him was the strongest, and if she needed to reach him, she needed to come here.

Bonnie, Kai, and Damon were somewhere else in the woods, preparing for the spell. Lydia was going to find them after she talked to Kol. She told Bonnie and Damon to tell Kai that she had gone to find the Augustine group's research to see if they had anything useful on psychics to figure out why she hadn't gotten her abilities back. Since Kai didn't know otherwise, he bought it.

Lydia closed her eyes, placing her hands on her knees as she sat with her legs underneath her. She didn't exactly know how to do this, she had done it before when people were nearby, but she hadn't crossed over into another world before.

She tried to do it how she normally would, by thinking about the person she was trying to reach and searching for them. She told Kol to keep his mind open to her, and she believed that he would follow through with that. Now it was up to her. She took a deep breath and focused on him. There wasn't a moment in the prison world where she wasn't thinking about Kol. She thought about him every day since he had been daggered. Kol's biggest fear was being daggered again, and she knew that this would be hard on him. She knew that Kol spent the last few years rebuilding his relationship with his family, and while Klaus might not have completely ruined it, he certainly would've hurt it. She had a long list of things she wanted to talk about when she got back, things she wanted to tell him that she hadn't been able to. What made it worse was that the day Klaus had put a dagger in his heart was the first time they even saw each other in weeks. They hardly had time to catch up. Lydia dying a few weeks later didn't help.

She couldn't wait to be back home with him. When she got back, she didn't want to wait around anymore. She didn't think she could go back to college. At least not that one. The memory of Maxfield and what happened would forever taint her time there. She didn't know what she wanted her life to look like exactly, but she knew she wanted Kol in it. She wanted to enjoy her life, have fun, see new places, meet new people, and do it all with him at her side. He was the best person to do it all with. Kol liked to experience new things, he liked to have fun and run around. The stories that he had of certain places, the excitement he always brought with him, and the jokes he would tell were all what made being with him so special, and Lydia knew there was no one else she would rather spend the rest of her life with.

Lydia's eyes slowly opened. She didn't know what was expecting to happen when she did or what she expected to see, but she never would've guessed that she'd be standing at the bottom of the grand staircase in the manor, watching as Kol made his way down the staircase, looking like he was in a hurry. The second she saw him, her lips broke into a wide smile, and given the way he suddenly stopped in his tracks and his eyes widened, she knew that he saw her too.
