question of the chapter: do you think lydia should reconnect with jeremy? why?

Lydia bit down on her bottom lip as she tapped her foot against the road, staring down at the deflated wheel beneath her car. Of course she got a flat tire. Lydia didn't know how to fix one. Alaric tried to teach her how to change one, Lydia wasn't interested and didn't pay attention. She wished that she did or that she could call for help, but if she called for help, they would just take her back to her house. Lydia didn't want to go back to her house. Ever.

She had been heading out of town and was travelling alone down the dark road that ran through the woods. Not the best place to be alone at night. Every sound spooked Lydia. Every howl of the wind or rustling of the leaves terrified her. Which was why when she saw the headlights of a car making its way down the road, she panicked. Even more so when the car began to pull over by her, unrolling the window. Lydia didn't recognize the driver, which was odd considering Mystic Falls was a small town. Everyone knew everyone.

"Miss. Gilbert, what are you doing out here in the middle of the night?" The man spoke to her, causing Lydia to furrow her brow.

"H-how do you know who I am?" Lydia asked instantly. She would've known if she met this man before. He didn't speak like anyone she knew. She didn't know many people that drove around wearing suits either. Besides, he was pretty. Lydia was sure she would've remembered him.

"I know your sister, Elena," He explained."I'm Elijah. Is everything alright?"

"Oh, yeah, I just got a flat tire, but it's fine," Lydia said as if it were no big deal. She didn't want him to call Elena. No one knew that she was leaving town and she wanted to keep it that way. At least she got far enough that they couldn't get her back so easily.

"Do you not have a spare?" Elijah frowned while Lydia shook her head."Did you call for help?"

Again, Lydia shook her head."Don't worry about it-"

"I have one in my trunk, allow me to help you?" Elijah looked at her as if he was waiting for an answer. Lydia appreciated that. He wasn't pushy about it.

"That would be great, thanks," Lydia smiled slightly, watching as he nodded his head once and shut off his car and made his way over towards the back.

"You should always make sure to have a spare tire in the back," Elijah advised, causing Lydia to resist the urge to roll her eyes. She remembered her father telling her that around the time she was interested in learning how to drive. He was reluctant to teach her. Her mother said that it was because she was the youngest and he didn't want her to grow up. Lydia didn't think that was true. She thought the answer was obvious. If she had a way to leave she would take it. Then they couldn't control her.
