Sebastian's POV.
I sprint through the woods at break neck speed, leaving broken branches and twigs in my wake. The shrill sound of the danger alarm sounds and I mentally note that already someone was following protocol. The alarm was to be sounded only and only when the pack was facing grave danger.
" Casper!" I call through the link.
" Where are you? Are you okay?"
He sounds breathless already.
" Am on my way. How bad is it?"
" Pretty bad. We need you."
" Hang in there."
Smoke and giant flames rise into the dark sky as I reach the community. I leap and shift mid air into my wolf. The Huxembeast was to be used as a surprise attack. Not now.
My paws hit the ground hard as I run towards my home. Cabins were on fire and wolves were growling and howling, attacking each other. I didn't miss the hunters. They were hard to miss anyway with the way they were running around torching cabins.
At this rate, everything will be destroyed. That must be their battle strategy. The bastards fully intended to destroy my pack.
To leave it in ashes.
I see no women or children in sight. They must have gone underground as planned. Far ahead, I see my warriors led by casper charge other vicious looking wolves. Casper attacks head on and I throw myself into the fray.
I wasn't going to let these bastards destroy my pack. Not on my watch.
I sink my sharp canines into the first wolf I encounter, ripping it's jagular out. I spit out the flesh and proceed with my destruction. I feel my warriors' resolve strengthening when they sense my presence and fight the enemy with everything they've got. It's true, we had everything to lose and they had none.
We tear through the first wave of wolves and everything seems okay. Many wolves lay dead or bleeding out on the ground. A few of us were down as well but we had held our own. I stand panting infront of my warriors, Casper right besides me, his fur soaked with blood. I hoped it wasn't his.
" That was way too easy." He mind links.
" You're right. This can't be all of them. There are others out there. Get our wounded underground." I order and he immediately begins to carry out the order. Other warriors shift and together they walk through the endless bodies searching for our wolves who needed medical attention. I stay alert. Listening, watching, waiting.
This victory was way too easy for this war to be over.
I was sure there were others in waiting. I could feel them, feel their blood thirst. It was chilling honestly.
" What do we do about the fire Alpha?" Warrior Field asks.
I stare at the burning cabins and anger grips my chest. All the ones on the eastern end were in flames. The south, west were intact. But the fire was already spreading out towards the North.
" Leave it. There's nothing we can do. Take a few warriors with you to patrol. I'll stay here with the rest and wait it out."
I knew what these assholes were trying to do. They were sending out a few fighters at a time to tire us out and when our numbers were thinned, they would unleash their bulk on us and wipe us out. I knew that. But I was smarter.
I let onyx out and let him have a go at surveillance. Perhaps he could see what my human eyes couldn't. He walks dangerously slow up towards the darkened forest.
It was too calm. Perhaps the calm before the storm.
" They are in there." Onyx says after quietly listening to our surroundings.
"How many.?"
" Not sure. But many. Hundreds maybe."
Shit.
How were we going to win against hundreds of blood thirsty wolves and hunters?
" Blair?" I ask my wolf.
