Chapter 20

Sebastian Decker

What the hell was happening?? I watched in absolute shock as my mate took a threatening step towards me, making me take a step back. The glow in his eyes was so bright it was beginning to cast a halo around him.
And his voice! It was different! Deep and scary. It was nothing like his sweet calm voice.
Even his body language was all changed. If I didn't know any better, I'd think it was someone else entirely.

To be honest, I was scared. I just couldn't show it. Am an Alpha after all. So I stand my ground.
I was still mad from earlier today at the training grounds. What was he thinking coming around like that! For fucks sake I almost got a head injury when I lost control of the dumbbells! Just the scent of him made me want to do shit to him. And then when I turned and saw him in those tight pants, I almost lost it. I had to chug an entire bottle of water to help cool off the heat that was spreading south. I could feel myself hardening in my sweats. So to say, my training was ruined. And I was mad.

I was mostly mad at myself because of my reaction towards him. The pull was so strong! All I had to do was get a whiff of his extraordinary cupcake scent and am hard as a rock. I' d never felt like this... Not even with satin. And I had been in love with her!
That's what frustrated me the most . He didn't have to try and yet he was successfully making me lose sleep over him. My body wanted him. My wolf wanted him. So I became angry. He was the source of my frustrations so I took it out on him. I know it's not fair but I was confused. I didn't understand my emotions either.
So when I saw him at the bar, my anger bubbled up again and my asshole tendencies took over. I couldn't help it.

" You need to reign your wolf in Blair. People will start to notice. We are in public!" I command.

" My name isn't Blair, it's Zane." he says, narrowing his glowing eyes at me.

Zane??!!
Was this some sick joke??

" The fact that you're Alpha doesn't give you the right to treat people like shit. Especially your mate. Blair might be patient with you, but my patience is running thin Sebastian. We are your MATE. Us! Not some other she wolf you're so obsessed with. I have tolerated your games for the past 3 months, but I assure you, am done. A wolf has little patience. I will not sit by and watch you hurt Blair. He may not mean anything to you, but he is my human side. So tread carefully Alpha." he says.

By now, he is inches away from me, our faces almost touching. To my surprise, my wolf doesn't feel threatened by the fact that he's in our personal space. Infact, he's actually turned on!!

What the fuck!!

Normally, we would have shifted by now. No one spoke to an Alpha like that! But onyx wasn't reacting. To say I was shocked was putting it lightly! I couldn't understand his betrayal.
No! I needed to focus. Focus on this new turn of events.

" So your zane, Blair's wolf?" I ask , my tone light.

" That's what I just said Alpha."

" How is that even possible?" I question further.

" It has happened before. A long time ago. If you kept track of your history you would know. But all your time was spent with the she wolf."

I blink. Once twice. This wolf was bold! He was speaking to me like we were equals!

" We are equals Alpha. The fact that We are mates makes us equal. You should know that. But if you want my respect, you need to earn it."

He was making me angrier.

" Don't get so worked up, the walls of your mind are crumbling. You're projecting your thoughts."

He was right.. I take deep breaths and try to calm down. I concentrate on blocking my thoughts.

" I see you've fixed your emotions." he says, then steps back from me.
" Word of advise though, do not fight the mate bond. I know you want us, I could feel it. But what you felt for the she wolf wasn't real. But this, between us, is what is real. I know you feel it. Your mind is just trying to fight it. But it won't work. You can't run from it. We are soul mates Alpha. Only rejection and death can break the bond. " he says quietly.

Am speechless.. deep down I know he's right. He's absolutely right. I could feel the bond. It was so strong it left me breathless most times. But I didn't know why I wasn't willing to give into it.
" Where's Blair?" I ask instead.

" Asleep. A wolf possession does that. It's a lot of work"

" A what?"

" That's what it's called Alpha. For some one as smart as you, you're so ignorant. No offense by the way" he says

" None taken."

"I should go. Blair needs to rest." he says after a short pause.
Before he turns to leave, I grab his arm, and sparks shoot up my arm at the contact.

" Is he okay?" I ask

"Now your worried?" he chuckles.

And I can't help but think of how sexy the sound is.

" Good night soul mate" he says, then disappears into the night. How fast he could run was always a shock to me.

I stand out there for a whole 5 minutes, processing all that had just happened before deciding to finally join my friends in the bar.
I seriously needed a drink!

Heat and the smell of grease engulf me the moment I step through the door. I scan the faces present trying to find my crew. They are seated at the far end of the bar, away from everyone else. As I weave my way through the sweaty bodies in the bar, am greeted with the occasional  "Alpha", followed by a bow of the head. Others simply bowed their heads when I passed.
Casper sees me and yells! The way he always shouted made me worry for his vocal cords.

" Seb! Over here"
Like I hadn't already spotted them.
I make my way over and drop my body in the empty seat next to him.

" We already ordered.. I got your usual." he says, pushing a glass filled with a sparkly liquid my way. I grab the glass and empty its contents in one go. Then order for another, and then another, all this while Casper watching me like a hawk.
By the fifth glass, I start to feel a little tipsy.
I needed to really slow down!
Am eyeing my empty glass when Shane grabs my attention.

" You need to teach that boy a lesson Seb. He can't just corner you and demand an audience. Besides, he's a nobody. He doesn't even have a wolf for fucks sake! He should be thrown out of the pack. Such a freak!!" he sneers.

Hearing him trash talk my mate did something to me! My wolf saw red and before shane could even blink, I leapt out of my seat and grabbed a handful of his shirt..
" Say one more word about him and I'll forget we are friends! Are we clear?" I say, using my Alpha tone.

He simply nods.
I let go of his shirt and take a step back.

" And that goes for the rest of you too." I say to the rest of them.

Elliot was looking at me like I'd grown a second head.
Maybe I had.

Much as I wasn't keeping Blair a secret, I hadn't told my friends he was my mate. Except Casper. Only my family and him knew.
Without giving myself time to second guess, I blurt out;

" River Blair is my mate. I highly suggest you treat him with respect from now on."
Then I swiftly turn and make my way out of the bar. Not bothering to look back.

Today had really taken a surprising turn.
