River's POV.
It's almost 10pm and am getting ready to leave the cabin. I really hoped Marcus showed up. I needed him to tell me all he knows.
I'd spent the majority of the afternoon drifting in and out of sleep. And now I was feeling refreshed. Besides, we needed all the rest we could get. Surprisingly, Sebastian had left me to my own devices. His lack of communication had both bothered me and relieved me. Not sure if that even makes sense. But right now, I hoped he left me alone. I didn't need him appearing out of nowhere. I prayed whatever had kept him busy continues to hold him hostage.I grab my jacket and head out of my room then head down the stairs.
The only sound in the entire cabin was coming from the living room. I head there and see my mom and dad cuddled on the couch watching TV." Guys am going out for a bit. With Sebastian." I lie.
My dad looks away from the TV when he hears my voice.
" Hey you! You look fine!" he comments on my outfit.
I really did look good for someone who was probably heading into a fight. Black slacks and a maroon button up.
I smile at him then wave before heading to the front door.Chilly air caresses my skin through my shirt the second I step out. I take in a deep breathe as I scan my surroundings and once am satisfied with the absence of abnormalities, I push my hands deep into my pockets and head into the unknown.
I follow the narrow path that leads out of the community towards the north wing. I move at a brisk pace and it doesn't take long to reach the tree line that marks the edge of the territory. Once I penetrate the first line of trees, I break into a ran and head straight for the abandoned cabin. This had better go according to plan or something worse would happen.
I slow down my pace once the broken down cabin comes into view, then come to a complete stand still just a few metres away. I concentrate on my surroundings and try to sense any danger. A particular sound catches my attention.. it's a heartbeat. And it's coming from inside the cabin.
Marcus.
He was here already.I cautiously approach the cabin and walk through the gaping door frame. I could feel zane on high alert in my mind, ready to spring into action if anything went wrong.
In the far corner of the room, which am assuming was once a living room, a silhouette stands. I watch intently as it shifts alittle till Marcus himself comes into view. The moon is casting enough light all through the room and am able to perfectly see him even without my enhanced wolf sight." I thought you changed your mind." Is his opening line.
I stay close to the exit, and I make no attempt to move further into the room." Told you I'd meet you here. What did you want to tell me?"
" I know who killed Alpha Donovan." he admits.
" Is that so?"
" Yes. But I can only tell you on one condition."
I bark out a laugh.. the nerve of this guy!
I decide to humor him though." What do you want?" I question.
" I need to be pardoned for my crimes."
This peeks my interest.... So he admits he had something to do with the Alpha's death.
" What crimes are we talking about exactly Marcus.. please do tell."
He goes silent and looks overly conflicted.." Marcus I don't have time to waste here.. if you have something to say, SAY IT!"
" I.. I ....I helped the hunters sneak into pack territory." he finally admits.
"That's obvious Marcus.. tell me something I don't know. I know you had something to do with Alpha Donovan's death. Whether directly or indirectly. And no, am not going to pardon you. So here's the new deal." I pause for effect.
