Soul Mate

Chapter 12

River's pov

"Wow baby bro! You're full of surprises." Greta says still astonished. My wolf had retreated to the back of my mind after he pulled that stunt in the bedroom. And now I was back to my normal self. A wolf taking over their human's  body and speaking wasn't something unheard of but extremely rare. This ability depends solely on the strength of the wolf. We have two personalities, the human side and the wolf side. For many wolves, their human side is highly dominant and their wolf can't come through while in their human form unless they shift. Except through the eyes.
Needless to say, when a wolf fully takes over while in human form, they are as dominant as their human side. Two sides of a coin in one body. The coin just needed to be flipped.
And mine had most definitely flipped. How? I've got no clue. It just sort of happened.
Right now am in the living room and everyone including Archer is staring at me in awe.
Am a total badass I guess!
"This hasn't happened since Padre Gonzalez you know. The books say he was hunted and killed because he could harness this power. They feared the power of his wolf." Dad says quietly

" And how long ago was this?"I ask

"A hundred years or so I think. You are truly one of a kind son" he pats my back proudly.

"Okay so if this Gonzalez guy was hunted and killed, won't the same happen to me?"I ask feeling Abit scared now.

" We won't let anything happen to you son.. you are special, one of a kind. And we all would give our lives to protect you. Isn't that right?" My mom looks around the small group and they all nod.

"This protection starts with keeping this a secret and not telling the Alpha. Because once we do, it will definitely get to the elders and I Don't trust what their course of action will be. It's been years since a person like you existed, am not sure how welcoming they will be." Dad says in a serious tone.
Everyone seems to agree. Including Archer.

" But you need to learn how to control him son, we don't want another repeat of today out there. " he adds.

" I don't know how dad, he just came through. I didn't like the intrusion on my territory and the next thing I know, am pinning Archer to the wall!" I say helplessly.

"Perhaps it was your emotions that forced him forward." Greta volunteers." You felt threatened and he felt the need to defend" I Don't know, am just saying.

"You might be right" dad agrees with her." I recommend you stay indoors till I root out for more information." he adds

Archer had been really quiet.. maybe he was upset with me? I needed to apologise.
" Hey.." I say drawing his attention from my dad. " Am really sorry about earlier. I had no control over what happened really. It just sort of happened. Forgive me. I would never purposefully hurt you."

" It's okay River, I know. I was on your territory. I just kinda forgot you have a wolf now. I' LL be more careful next time." he says with a small smile." Just tell your wolf not to squeeze the shit out of me next time. Am delicate. I don't need manhandling, well may be in the bedroom! You get my drift." he winks. Now that's the Archer I know!!

"You're too spoilt for my own good!" I say. Then turn back to my dad.
He was saying something about visiting the library to find out more about my wolf situation.

"Guys am gonna head back upstairs.." I say to them. I needed to process what just happened and my current new predicament.
Everything was just happening so fast I couldn't even catch my breath. Goddess I needed a break!

"Sure son.. get some rest. We'll keep you in the loop when we find anything. " Dad says.

When I get to my room, that's when I realise I didn't even find out what Archer was doing here in the first place. But I was so tired for any kind of conversation now.  I dragged my body to my bed and crawled between the sheets. The exhaustion was kicking in again. Before I knew it, I was out like a bulb.

Am awakened by the feel of tiny arms wrapping around me.  My body stiffens and I snap my eyes open but instantly relax when I smell Bay. I turn and lie facing her. We are just inches apart nd I can make out the little golden specks in her green eyes. I couldn't help but think of how gorgeous they were.

" Hey sleepy head! " she says, pushing my hair out of my face. I smile.

"When did you get here?" I ask

"Not long. Just a little after 7"

Wow! Okay.. I had slept almost through out the day. What had my life turned into? No clue!
Sebastian Decker was slowly killing me. I might as well perish before he officially rejects me. Which he's planning on doing I think. Why else would he disappear without a trace if he wasn't planning on breaking the mate bond. I suppose I could make it easier for him by wasting away little by little.

"A penny for your thoughts? " Bay brings me out of my mental debate.
I sigh, and rub my eyes. I could feel the unwanted tears threatening to breach my eye lids.

" I just don't understand why he left without at least approaching me. We could have maybe talked it out or something. I don't know.. I know he wasn't ready for another relationship so soon after what happened. I would have given him all the time in the world if that's what he wanted. But he didn't even ask." " I feel useless, unworthy." I say, a tear finally slipping out of my eye.

" Don't belittle yourself River. You're a good catch. And any guy would be ecstatic to have you as their mate. You're smart, you're not just handsome, but beautiful too. And you've got the purest soul. I know this because I've known you half my life. And you're my bestest friend." Bay says. " You're amazing, and Sebastian is an idiot for not trying to get to know you. A stupid, selfish, idiot if you ask me."
I smile at her, she really did know how to make me feel better.

"Now tell me about this kick ass wolf of yours. I heard he made Archer shit his pants."
And my smile grows wider.
