Chapter 59

Sebastian's POV.

I feel so cold and empty as I sit besides the hospital bed in which my mate currently lies in. It's been one week since I pulled him out of the stream and he hasn't shown any signs of waking. I run my thumb across the back of his palm as I hold his hand. He feels so cold to the touch.... ice cold to be more specific. More dead than alive. My hope was dwindling with each day that passes and my heart breaking.
For the past 7days, I'd barely left his side except to go to the bathroom. This cold room had become my second home because my mate was my home. I wouldn't leave his side till he chose to leave me.

I swallow the lump in my throat that is threatening to choke me and blink back tears. My blurry gaze shifts back to his pale face, even in his vegetable state, he still looked beautiful. The beeping heart monitor and ventilator are the only indications that he is still with me. The soft rise and fall of his chest is barely visible. I could now feel the mate bond but it was weak.. and onyx couldn't feel Zane. My wolf was depressed, overly protective, beyond angry and hadn't left the surface since that day we found him. My eyes hadn't gone back to the blue but we're now constantly black.

"You should go rest man.. I can watch him for you till you get back. You look dead yourself." Casper's voice says.
I'd totally forgotten he was even in the room.

" I can't leave him Cas. Whoever did this is still out there. They could come back to finish the job. Their goal was to make this pack vulnerable to attack by killing the Alpha and my mate. They got to him to get to me. But they didn't succeed. And despite Nate's efforts to solve this, there's still no concrete information. It's like the attackers just disappeared. But I know better.. they are among us. They are just waiting for the perfect moment to strike."

"I will never let anything happen to him Seb. You know that." He says quietly.
I turn to look at him, he's leaning against the wall.

"I know. I trust you. You're my friend. My brother. My Beta." I say.
He was truly all the above. Which is why the fact that he hadn't even brought up the fact that I'd turned Huxembeast was bothering me.
His silence was eating me up.
When he saw me that day, in my other form, he was neither surprised nor scared. It was like he already knew..
But how?

"How long?" I decide to break the silence.

"How long what??"

"How long have you known about my other form?" I clarify.
He sighs, before pulling himself off the wall and taking a seat in the sofa by the window. He shifts around Abit, the chair really did look uncomfortable. No wonder my back was hurting after spending every single night on the thing for the past week.

"I've known since we were 15." he says once he's comfortable.
His tone is unreadable and he's face blank, expressionless. Which is very unusual for Casper. He always wore his emotions on a sleeve.
Him acting this way was unnerving.
I turn in my seat to give him my full attention, but I don't let go of Blair's hand.

"Five years is a long time. Why didn't you say anything?

He softly chuckles and runs a hand through his hair, ruffling the thick strands.

"How could I? I just thought you would tell me on your own. But then days into months and months into years. And am not judging, because I honestly understand why you didn't come to me. I mean, what you are it's never happened before. So I figured you didn't want anyone knowing because I wouldn't want anybody knowing either if I were in your shoes." he says.

"Am sorry. I just couldn't bring myself to tell anyone. Not even my parents. Blair is the first person I opened up to. And it didn't come easy. I thought he would reject me or something."

"Huh! The guy wouldn't reject you even if you turned into a frog!"
And I can't help but laugh alittle despite the situation.

"He said the same thing to me." I say quietly, remembering that particular day at the stream.

"Which part?"

"Me turning into a frog!"
Casper gives me a smile.. the kind that I was used to seeing on his face.

"He's my brother so we kinda think alike!" he says.

"Tell me about your other form. Now that I can ask questions I need to utilize the opportunity."

"It's called Huxembeast. Combination of man and wolf. According to the prophecy only a true Alpha can do it. It used to happen way back in the day." I explain.
"Hum.. ex...burg ..what?? The name is giving me a migraine already."

"Huxembeast." I repeat.

"I'll just go with beast man. I mean you're literally a beast in that form. Shit would scare the walking dead, trust me." he says.

I smile.. my Casper was back.

"When I saw you that first time in the woods, I peed my pants. And that's not a lie!" he exclaims..
And I burst into laughter..

"I mean I followed you into the woods, it was play day. The days we used to play boarder patrol. You were going into the woods way much earlier than usual so I decided to tag along. But then you go to our secret spot, strip and start to shift. And I was like Holy shit!! If I hadn't witnessed the transformation, I wouldn't have believed it was you.
And the most astonishing thing, the one thing that helped me keep my shit together was the fact that my wolf recognized his Alpha. He didn't feel threatened and he actually submitted to your new form. Once he did that, I stopped freaking out. I just turned and ran back the way I came. Since then, I would follow you each time you went into the woods just to see your other form." he finishes.

Going into the woods to our secret spot which was an abandoned house casper and I discovered when we were much younger was a habit I'd developed. I would let my Huxembeast out once a week and just be.

"Am glad you knew. Am glad you didn't reject me or stop being my friend." I say to him.

"Don't get all sappy on me man.. I can't handle this shit now with everything going on." his eyes flick to my mate, then back to me.

" No really Cas, you're amazing."

" If that's your way of saying you love me then yes I love you too bro!" he says, tone serious.

"Fuck you man! But yes, I love you man. And thanks for everything."
He smiles brighter..

We are silent after that, just lost in our own thoughts.

"You know he's gonna pull through right?" he says quietly, his eyes on my still mate.

"I really hope so Cas. Because if he doesn't I don't know how I will cope. With protecting the pack, my father's death. These hunters really knew what this would do to me. To bring me down, they messed with what I love most. And it's working."

"We will see this through. I promised to fight for you, to fight alongside you and to go to war for you. And I intend to go through with that. You are not in this alone Seb. Many of us in this pack would die for you. We would Lay down our lives for You. You are our Alpha now. You have our loyalty, our allegiance."

His words come with a strength that breaks me and makes me all at once. They build me back up from where I'd crumbled, brick by brick. Till am standing tall and strong, ready to face another stormy day. Ready to fight this war to the very end.
