Chapter 9

River's pov

"How is he doing? Do we need to call the pack doctor?" I hear Greta say but her voice seems to come from far away.
I struggle to open my eyes.. what the fuck happened?

" You embarrassed us by fainting.. not a good first impression you know"  a strange voice says in my head..
Okay, now am officially losing my mind. Am hearing voices in my head. They might as well just call the pack doctor cause am going insane.

"You don't wanna do that.. no one wants a crazy mate. Trust me on this." the voice says
Since am already insane I might as well go with the flow.
" Who are you?" I ask the voice

" Your wolf! The other side of you. And your voice of reason. You don't seem capable of handling yourself. How you've survived  without me for this long is beyond me " the voice says
My eyes snap open immediately!

"Oh thank goodness! Your awake.." my mom exclaims. She looks so worried. I'd never seen her this worried except that time when I lost my two front teeth. I force myself into a sitting position and take in my surroundings.. I was home. How I got here was unknown to me.
" How are you feeling.. should we get the pack doctor" Greta asks.
"No am okay.. am just a little out of it." I say.
"Here,  drink this. It will help with your sugar levels." Mom places a glass of juice in my hand.
My mind was still blank, with no recollection of what happened. I was having temporary memory loss I guess.
I take the glass and take a sip, and another. Then the front door opens and dad walks in.
"Is he awake yet? I got vanilla ice cream like you asked Greta" he says.
The mention of vanilla is what jogs my memory and I choke on my juice. I break into a coughing fit and Greta hits my back to help stop the choking. Everything comes rushing back and am going into shock all over again.

Mate! I realized my mate.
And I have a wolf!!!
Sweet goddess and her creation!
Different emotions were running through me I wasn't sure how to feel. First I was in shock, then happy, excited, elated and now sad.
" Sweet goddess River! Stop scaring the crap out of us" Greta says when my coughing subsides.
"Sorry... am just in shock right now." I say quietly.
" What happened son?" dad asks as he takes a seat on the couch opposite me.
"I realized my mate guys.. but that's not all. I have a wolf" I say, a smile forming on my face.
I stare at them, taking in their expressions. They were priceless!
Except my mom. She was smiling. Her smile was so bright I was momentarily blinded.
My dad's eyes were as wide as saucers and Greta's jaw had dropped to the floor.
" You might want to reconnect your jaw back to your face sister dearest.." I say to Greta.
"That's not all.." I add

" There's more!" Greta finally finds her voice.
"Yaaa... You might want to sit down for this." I say as I run a hand through my hair. Mom hands me a band and I hold it up in a ponytail.
They both join dad on the couch.
"It's Sebastian" I say once they are seated.

" What?" Dad seems confused.
And Greta is just opening and closing her mouth like a fish.

" I said my mate is Sebastian" I calmly repeat..
Mom jumps off the couch screaming about how she knew it all a long.. which is a lie of course.

"Wow.. that's just crazy!" Dad finally says something.
"I know right"..
"So that's why you fainted earlier." Greta confirms.

" I guess everything was just too much for me to handle.. my wolf awakening and realising Sebastian. It was just alot. I don't even know what he's thinking. Because he realized it was me as well. He was there at the market. We locked eyes. And before everything went dark I caught a glimpse of his face. He didn't look happy guys. He looked disappointed." I tell my family.

"Am sure he was just as shocked as you. Don't think too much of it sweetie. Just dwell on the fact that you finally got the guy you always dreamed about. Not everyone is as lucky as you." Mom says gently.
We are all silent. Till dad breaks it.
" So a wolf huh! " He says with a proud smile on his face. My dad has always been proud of me, but at times people's words would get to him. Some pack members would mock him because his son couldn't shift. They claimed I had a birth defect. But right now, I could see how happy he was. And this made me happy too. Perhaps we would stop being the talk of the town.
" What's his name?" Greta asks, seeming as eager as dad.
"Guys I haven't spoken to him much since I've been unconscious you know. He tried talking but I freaked out!"
I knew we could speak to our wolves but that fact had skipped my brain.. which is why I had claimed insanity when I heard his voice in my head. I wasn't putting two and two together. Yaaa am that slow, blame it on today's events.
When I told them how I thought I was going insane because I was hearing voices, Greta burst out laughing. She called me an idiot! Can you imagine the nerve!

"Ask him to come forward, I wanna see the color of his eyes." Mom says.
"Hold on" I say.
"Hey, could you please come forward, my family would like to see you." I say in my head.
There's short silence before he says anything.

" Yes of course, since you asked so nicely. Oh, and it's our family not yours. Now close your eyes." he says
And I do.
When I open them, I hear gasps from the people around me.
"What? What color are they?" I ask eagerly.
Greta just digs into her purse and after searching through, she hands me a mirror. I hold it to my face and am stunned!
My eyes were glowing!
My natural eye color was a light grey. But now they were darker and glowing. I'd never seen anything like it. "Your eyes are pretty" I tell my wolf.
" Thank you! My name is zane by the way." He says.

"His name is zane" I say out loud.

"He's beautiful" mom says beaming.
And I can't help but agree.

A/N
for better understanding of the story, I just want to say that the wolf's eye color is different from the person's color.
Example, Sebastian's eyes are blue but his wolf's eyes are black.
Also, a person's hair determines the color of their wolf when they shift.
