The task before me played on my mind to no end. Whilst my peers were focusing on passing the exam, I was focused on even being allowed to take the damn exam.

I slumped back into my seat, mumbling a quick apology to Ectoplasm for being late. I rested my chin on my hands, completely tuned out from the Literature lesson happening.

"Why'd Aizawa-sensei pull you out?" Katsuki whispered from next to me.

"Tell you after class." I whispered back, trying not to draw our teacher's attention. He went back to the lesson, taking notes and also drawing explosions and murders on a separate page. What a fucked up child.

The lesson ended, and breaktime rolled around after an eternity.

"So?" Katsuki asked bluntly, pulling out a snack.

"They won't let me take the damn exam because I'm quirkless and it's 'too dangerous' for me." Katsuki stopped eating and scrunched his eyebrows.

"Seriously? That's kinda messed up. But maybe it's for the best, because I woulda beat your ass so hard there." The boy grinned, but his face fell when he saw no reaction from me.

"At least you win our bet by default, I guess." I said, already sick of the prospect of doing his laundry.

"That's not a real win. I'm not satisfied with that. That's just shit. Is there nothing you can do?" He wanted to know.

"I need a letter of recommendation saying that I'm more than capable, from All Might, Endeavour, and Best Jeanist. One letter each." He thought for a moment.

"Well, I'll set up a meeting for you with Best Jeanist or whatever. All Might's already agreed to write one, right?" I nodded.

"But... You gotta talk to Todoroki." He glanced at the aloof half-redhead sitting alone at his desk.

"Not gonna be easy. But yeah, I'd really appreciate it if you could get me in touch with Jeanist. Please."

"Yeah, whatever. I'll text you the time." He got out his phone and began composing a text.

"Thanks, Katsu." I appreciated this rare moment of kindness from him. Although, it was probably only because he didn't want to win this bet by default.

"It's fine. No big deal." Katsuki said, a little bit embarrassed from doing something nice for once.

The ring of the bell sent Present Mic towards us, ready for English.

"I'll grab Shoto at lunch." I said, putting away my books. Not like I needed to take notes here.

----

"He eats with that damn Deku and his other nerd friends, right?" Katsuki said, scanning the cafeteria.

I spotted Todoroki walking off to his table with some soba in hand.

"See you round, wish me luck." I crossed my fingers before running after him.

"Todoroki!" I grabbed his attention. He slurped up a noodle before answering me.

"Oh, L/N. Did you need something?" He responded.

"Yes, actually. Let's talk somewhere else. Follow me." I started walking off, Todoroki following behind with uncertainty.

"Welcome to the best rooftop in Japan, Shoto." I gestured to the expansive roof before sitting down. He sat down next to me, still eating his lunch. I pulled out a cigarette and held it between my teeth. The cool breeze blew against my hair, a refreshing relief from the heat.
