Chapter 17 - Tanjiro's First Demon Battle

"Huh? What could mom possibly want?" Tanjiro questioned as he opened the message app.

MOM -> "Hello, honey! You're leaving Isekai's house today, right? Well, on your way back home, can you pick up a few groceries for me? We ran out yesterday. Just get the usual."

Tanjiro just sent a thumbs up, and took Takeo with him to the large city mall.

2:30 PM, Mama Kamado's Bakery

"Hey, Takeo. How about we have a little snack at mom's bakery?" Tanjiro suggested. Takeo's eyes lit up. "Sure!" he said as the siblings walk into the bakery. An old man recognizes Tanjiro, and calls him. "Hey, Tanjiro! Long time no see!"

"Old man Saburo! You work here?" Takeo asks, running over to him. "Just doing this as something fun. I loved baking whenever I was a kid. Anyway, what do you want?" Saburo asks, leaning forward. "Can I get 1 chocolate donut with cream filling, and a glazed strawberry donut?" Tanjiro asks. Saburo nods, and looks at Takeo. "How about you?" Takeo looks around, and answers: "3 cheese bread pieces should do me."

"Alright, and Kamado family discount, that'll be 100 Yen, please," Saburo requested, holding his hand out. Tanjiro paid the old man 100, and they tried to find a seat. At one of the tables, Tanjiro recognized a girl who sported a ponytail at her right. "Oh, hey!" he called out. The girl was startled, and the girl turned out to be Kanao. "Kyah!" she yelped, and taken by surprise, started juggling her phone. She caught it and looked up. "Ah, Tanjiro! Fancy seeing you here."

"Well, my mom had me buy some groceries, so I came here so my little brother Takeo and I could have a short snack before heading on home..." he explained, blushing a little and scratching his head. Takeo leans over to his brother, and asks: "Uh, onii-chan, who is she?"

"Oh, this is Kanao. One of my classmates, and a part of the Slayers." he said as he sat down next to Kanao. "Tanjiro, you can't tell him about that!" she replied, flailing her arms a little. "I already knew. I heard Isekai's and Tanjiro's conversation about the Slayers one night, and besides Nezuko and Tanjiro, I'm the only one of the Kamado family who knows." he said as he sat down on the table next to an empty seat.

After a few minutes of Kanao and Tanjiro chatting, a waiter brought them their food. Takeo got his bread, Kanao got a pizza-ish type of pastry bread, and Tanjiro got his donuts.

3:15 PM, Mama Kamado's Bakery

"I'd love to hang and chat, Kanao. But Takeo and I have to leave before it gets dark," he said, picking up the grocery bags. Kanao scratched her head, replying with: "Yeah me too, sisters Shinobu and Kanae get overly worried if they don't have me in the house by 6 PM. Let's head on over to the exit together."

Before long, they arrived at the mall entrance. Kanao tapped Tanjiro's shoulder before they could split off, and he wondered what Kanao needed. Kanao signaled Tanjiro to bend his back a bit, and she pecked Tanjiro on the cheek.

"OHOHO... THIS STUFF'S GON' GET SPICAY," Takeo said as he snapped a picture of Kanao sweetly kissing Tanjiro on the cheek. Luckily for him, no one noticed. Tanjiro turned red and just walked away in embarrassment. Kanao just smiled and parted ways with him. As for Takeo, he just pretended he didn't see anything and walked home.
