Chapter 52 - Yurika Kamado

(I'm well aware that Tanjiro's grandmother does exist in the anime. In the case for this story, I'm just making up a name for her, since I'm fully unsure what her name actually is. Changes have been applied to Chapter 47 as a result of this story.)

Tanjiro was still fully conscious, and partly in control of his body. He tried to look around, trying to gather his surroundings. All he knew was that he was jumping across walls fast enough that his sight was taking in motion blur. The only question he could ask himself was: "What's... happening...?!" Eventually, Tanjiro lost full control of his body again, and his consciousness remained in his mind.

He tried to take in his surroundings as he tried to find out what's causing this. All he could see was the very same ground he met Masuki in, and an elderly woman watching the view of Tanjiro's sight.

Tanjiro noticed her, and asked: "Excuse me... ma'am... who- wait... GRANDMA?" as she turned towards him. She waved back, answering: "Ah, hello, Tanjiro! I see you've grown ever since the final time I saw you. You may be questioning what's happening to you, and yes, I am the cause of this. Didn't my grandfather tell you that I'm the seventh?"

Tanjiro tried to remember. It clicked, then he nodded. He then asked: "Uhm... Grandma... I never got to know your name. What is it?" as she chuckled a little, then answering: "My name... my name's Yurika. Yurika Kamado. As it is... I'm taking over your youthful body for a time. You must be wondering why you're moving so fast..."

Tanjiro raised one eyebrow, replying with: "Yeah... I am..." as Yurika chuckled again, then explaining what she's doing, and how the body's moving so fast. "My Blood Magic... is called Rocket Jump. At will, your muscles on your calf begin to expand and take in magic energy. Then, when you release it by leaping with high force, that energy explodes beneath your feet, propelling you forward."

"Ah." Tanjiro muttered before asking how she does it so fast. She answered: "It just comes naturally. I traveled to America once... and there was a Wanted Poster for a young woman with 1 mole on her nose, a height of 5'1 and black and brown hair. She looked to be in her early 20's, and I was already on my early 30's. However, I still looked young back then, and had nearly the exact same features of the woman on the poster... and everyone mistook me for the criminal."

Tanjiro felt a bit bad for his grandmother. She was wrongly convicted of her actions. She decided to go on about her time in America, adding: "Then, I was on the run for the next two years, constantly making successful escapes from the police with the help of my Rocket Jump magic. All of them were close calls, seeing as I hadn't acquired the Kagura yet. I met with some people who knew I wasn't the criminal, and one of them was your grandfather, two of the others were men, another, the very criminal on the Wanted Poster, then the last one was her daughter, aged 15 at the time."

Tanjiro's body, who was still in the control of Yurika, constantly landed strikes on Gyutaro's body, but the sword could never reach his neck for some reason. Yurika muttered: "...how bothersome of this young man..." as she went on about her past. "Anyway, where was I? Oh, yes. I was trained by these kind young men to fight, and eventually, I was renowned as the most skilled fighter among the group."

Tanjiro then asked: "How did you leave the place?" to which she asked: "By your grandfather's boat. Anyway, 3 months had passed since I'd gained that ranking, and one day, I got my leg shot trying to escape from the captain. At the time, I didn't know they had something to tell me."

== FLASHBACK ==

The captain and his squad were in hot pursuit of Yurika, who was 31 at the time. She tried to escape, as she knew that the captain knew how to defend himself in hand-to-hand combat. Although she was the best fighter in her squad, Yurika never wanted to take any form of risk whatsoever.

The captain yelled: "STOP FUCKIN' RUNNING, WOMAN! WE'RE NOT HERE TO SNAP YOU UP, WE HAVE SOMETHING TO TELL YOU!" as he drew his taser gun and tried firing bolts at her. To no avail, he missed.

Yurika nearly made it out of the valley when, by instinct, one of the squadron members drew out her revolver and shot her left calf. She grimaced in pain, tumbling down to the ground as the coalition caught up with her. To her surprise, they didn't lock her in handcuffs.

The captain huffed and puffed, lightly ranting: "Fuck... you're fast... alright... whoo..." as he shook off his fatigue, then tried to explain the situation to Yurika. "Alright... Look, we realized we were wrong. The criminal ain't you. A former colleague and old friend of the criminal we were looking for was confirmed to be in their early twenties. But... just to confirm... how old are you?" he explained, before politely asking for her age.

Yurika answered: "I turned 31 a week ago." as she grimaced from the pain once more. The captain realized she had a bullet hole, then angrily asked: "Alright, who of all of you fuckin' shot her?!" to which the one who fired at her raised his hand. He briefly scolded the man before taking out a roll of bandages, then wrapping up Yurika's wound.

Before leaving and taking her compensation, the chief asked: "Might you happen to know the whereabouts of this woman?" to which she pretended to think, and shook her head. The captain gave her thanks, and his apologies on behalf of the entire police force in all of America.

== FLASHBACK END ==

Yurika went on, adding: "Four months after that, I decided to return to Japan, my home. The criminal came with me, saying she wanted to begin a new life, one where she doesn't have to worry about the police catching her.

10 weeks after I returned marked the day I had relations with your grandfather. We were together for 2 years, before he proposed marriage to me. It shouldn't be questionable that I accepted, and married him two weeks after. Ayato was his father, and he decided to pass the Kagura to me, knowing my history.

We had three kids, the eldest being your father, the middle was a girl, and she looked and had a personality much like your sister, and the youngest, another girl, had a lot of pride. She was never married, nor did she date anyone. Don't worry about her, she's well-off."

Tanjiro took in all of what Yurika told her, then asked how long she's going to keep control. She answered: "Ah, of course. To be honest, I have not a lot of time left. Prepare yourself, and properly use what I taught you. I'm going to give you back your body. Now prepare, young man, and use my power to boost you onward to victory against this demon."

And so, Tanjiro got back control of his body. He equipped a determined face, exclaiming with focus: "Let's do this."
