Recap:

The boarding house was spotless, thanks to the compelled group of teenagers. Caroline had gone home, but Elena was in Damon's room, waiting for him. Her phone buzzed and she looked at it.

Elena, there's someone in the house and I'm alone!

It was Talia.

I'm coming. HIDE!

Elena jumped up and ran into the living room, where Alaric was nodding off.

"Ric! Talia's home alone, she says someone is in the house!"

Alaric sprang up and the twosome jumped in his car, speeding off.

Chapter 33:

"Step on it, Ric!" Elena shouted as the lights were green. But she groaned in frustration when they changed red and Alaric braked hard.

"Talia will be fine. She's fine. She's smart." Alaric murmured to himself.

"Yeah. She's probably paranoid after what Katherine did." Elena spoke desperately, trying to convince herself more.

*at the Gilbert residence*

Talia was hiding in Elena's closet, her heart beating very fast. She was so scared before she realised that something could grab her from the back of the closet. Shaking, she slowly opened the closet door and looked around. But as her view was limited because of the half shut door, she leaned a little forward before tumbling out of the closet with a muffled crash. "Fuck," Talia she rubbed her head.

Taking a deep breath, she ran to the joint bathroom that Elena and Jeremy shared. I need a weapon. I need a weapon. She kept repeating the same words in her head when her eyes fell on a bat, just visible in Jeremy's room. Smiling in relief, she grabbed it and stood next to the door, ready to move out.

Talia held her breath as she slowly tiptoed over the landing. What do I do? She thought in her head as she shook like a leaf. Counting in her head, she held the bat tighter and ran down the stairs as fast as she could. Hearing a clatter behind her, Talia gasped and started to swing the bat wildly before she saw who it was and she lowered the heavy bat. "You bloody idiotic idiot," Talia breathed as she put the bat down before she noticed something about Jeremy. Relaxing her shoulders, she sighed as she looked at him. He was completely out of it and Talia could smell weed and alcohol off him. "Oh, Jer."

"What?"

Talia's heart rate was slowing down after it was practically sprinting. "Here, let me help you!" Talia put Jeremy's arm around her shoulders and gripped his waist, but she was struggling as her knees threatened to buckle under her. "Jeez, you're so heavy, Jeremy!

"Why do you got a bat?" Jeremy slurred as he struggled to focus.

"Because I thought someone broke in. Turns out it was you, my drunk brother/my half sister's brother/cousin thing..." Talia almost dropped Jeremy.

"I'm a thing. Huh?" Jeremy pulled a confused face.

"Shh. Don't talk, you need sleep." Talia put her arm around his waist again and struggled to half carry and half drag him up the the stairs. "Blimey Jer, you really need to lay off the pizza." Pulling his boots off, she threw his duvet over him and he fell asleep immediately. As soon as she closed Jeremy's bedroom door, Talia heard another clatter downstairs and her heart raced again.

"Hello? Talia?!" It was Elena. "Where are you?"

Sighing in relief, Talia ran downstairs so Jeremy didn't wake up. Downstairs, Alaric and Elena looked so scared, but when they saw Talia, both sighed and ran to her. "Did someone break in?" Alaric asked as he looked alert.
