Recap:

"It's not here, Damon."

Damon scowled and starting searching too. "Well, maybe you just forgot what shelf you put it on." Damon said.

"No, I didn't forget it. It's... I put it right here. A stake doesn't just vanish into thin air!"

"Who else did you tell, Ric? Talia? Elena? Meredith?"

"I didn't tell anybody, Damon. I'm the only..." Alaric trailed off.

"What?" Damon asked sharply.

"I'm the only one who knew about it, Damon."

"Are you telling me that your vampire hating alter ego has a stake that could kill an entire line of vampires, possibly mine?" Damon asked.

"That's exactly what I'm telling you." Alaric said, defeated.

Chapter 61:

"Uh... what are you doing?" Elena asked.

Talia was on all fours as she looked under the sofas. "Dad can't remember where he put his stake and now I cannot find the fucking thing." Talia sighed, getting up with a groan as her bones cracked.

"What?" Elena asked.

"I'm serious."

"Ugh." Elena sighed. "I'll help you."

*a while later*

"Ugh." Talia moaned as she walked in back in the parlour. "I've looked everywhere and I cannot find the damn stake." She stopped short when she saw Stefan and Elena looking at each other. "I'll um... go and see if everything fits in the car, um, for your trip. Actually, I'm gonna go back to... the Grill."

*one hour later*

"Can't find it?" Damon asked.

"You know I can't." Talia glowered as she walked in.

"We're gonna have to use other means of force on Ric, if he doesn't fess up." Damon said as Stefan walked in.

"Hold on. You're gonna beat it out of him? Are you nuts?!" Talia shrieked.

"It's the only way, kid," Damon sighed.

"No, there has to be another way, there always is."

"Talia, face it," Stefan said firmly, "This is the only way. We need to find that stake or Klaus will end us all."

"Just give me some bloody time, damn it, Damon!" Talia yelled. She breathed hard hard and looked regretful. "I'm... sorry. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have yelled. It's just, he's my Dad! It's... I... please, guys, don't do this. There has to be another way."

"Fine." Damon looked at Talia. "Fine. We'll wait. We'll do it your way."

*a few hours later*

"Fuck!" Talia screamed as she threw a thick book onto the floor.

"Careful kid, that's a classic." Damon said. When Talia did not retort with sarcasm, he looked at her with pity. "I take it your way didn't work, sweetie?"

"I'm gonna check at school." Talia whispered as a tear fell. She walked out and Damon sucked his teeth as he picked up the heavy book from the floor.

Downstairs, Elena walked down the stairs into the basement with a bag. She approached the door to one of the cells and peered through the barred door window.

"Alaric?"

"Yep. Still me." Alaric spoke.

Elena unlocked the door and walked into the small cell. Alaric was sat on the bed.
