Recap:
"You're much more than them, love," Klaus murmured, "I would never hurt you."
"But you did," Talia gently prised his hand off her cheek, "you did hurt me, Klaus."
"I could've compelled you to accept their deaths," Klaus spoke, "But I didn't, you want to know why? Because I respect you far too much to cheat you."
"But you don't feel remorse," Talia sighed. "Just take me home, Klaus. Move on."
Klaus was suddenly angry. "Tyler deserved it, and if I could, I'd do it again!" Klaus spat coldly.
"Shut up,"
"No!" Klaus growled as he grabbed Talia's forearms roughly. "Talia, why are you taking his side? I'm the one you're with, not him! You're mine!"
"Have you heard yourself? You sound like a petulant child! I am no one's! I am mine!" Talia yanked herself free from his grip. "And how can you say that? Really? Tyler deserved having his mum murdered? Did my mum deserve that too? Did she deserve to be burned into ashes on her own grave? Did Jenna deserve to be turned and then sacrificed?" Talia was in tears. Klaus sighed and pulled her towards him. "No, no." Talia sniffed. But Klaus did not give up. Finally, Talia stopped struggling and allowed Klaus to pull her against his chest. "I still hate you," Talia sniffed.
"I'm sorry to hear that," Klaus kissed Talia's head.
The two stood on the side of the road, clinging on to each other.
Chapter 79:
In Shane's office at Whitmore College, Rebekah and Stefan were still searching. Stefan's phone started ringing. He looked at it, but Rebekah grabbed it from him before he could even answer it.
"Hello, Elena." Rebekah smiled.
"What did you do to Stefan?"
"Rescued him from his old, dull life, but it keeps calling. Stefan's not in the mood to talk right now."
"Then he can listen. I know you might not care about me right now, Stefan, but Kol compelled Damon to kill Jeremy. They're somewhere in the tunnels, and-it's one giant maze down here, and I can't find them, so if you still care about the cure or about Jeremy, then maybe you can come help." Elena's voice wobbled but Stefan remained silent. Elena was now angry but she sighed. "Okay." She hanged up.
"Well," Rebekah toyed with Stefan's phone, "that is an interesting predicament. For both of us."
In the tunnels, Jeremy ran as he heard Damon calling from a distance. "Did you miss the part where I said I'm compelled? Don't stop!"
Jeremy withdrew a knife and used it to cut his hand.
"Seriously?" Damon called. "You're being hunted by a vampire, and now you're bleeding?" Damon sped to where Jeremy left his jacket on the ground. He was picking it up when suddenly Jeremy ran at Damon and put him in a headlock. Damon bit his arm and Jeremy yelled in pain as Damon threw him down to the ground. "Dumb move, Jer. You can't fight me in closed quarters." Damon's eyes were veiny.
"Worth a shot." Jeremy shot Damon twice in the abdomen.
Damon groaned in pain as he fell to his knees. "You're gonna have to shoot me, Jeremy, in the heart. I'm not gonna be able to stop myself. Jeremy, you are a hunter. You know you want to. Do it." Jeremy stood still with gun aimed at Damon, but did not shoot. "Do it!" Damon got up, and his face vamped out as he failed to resist the compulsion. Jeremy fired the gun.
Later, Damon was lying on the ground, waking up.
"Ow. Ugh." Damon sat up. Groaning, he pulled a bullet out of his forehead. "He shot me in the head!" Throwing the bullet on the ground angrily, Damon stood up, "Stupid, idiot, borderline brain-dead moron! That was dumb, Jeremy. You should've killed me when you had the chance." Damon saw Jeremy's blood on the ground; his eyes vamped out as he walked down another tunnel.
