Recap:

"You will leave my family and friends alone." Talia said.

Esther looked at Talia long and hard before she chuckled. "Fine. I must say, you drive a hard bargain."

"I mean it. You and your son will stay away from my sister, father, Jeremy and all my friends. Do I have your word?" Talia asked.

Esther observed Talia and then she nodded curtly.

"Good." Talia breathed out, relieved.

"We'll see you around," Finn's smirked, making Talia's skin crawl.

Chapter 60:

Damon and Rebekah were lying in Damon's bed together, with Rebekah fast asleep. Damon, however, was awake and he watched as Sage entered the room. He nodded at her. She quietly walked over to the bed and sat next to Rebekah. She placed her hand on Rebekah's head and got inside her head. Within seconds, she was smiling.

"What?" Damon mouthed to Sage and Sage put a finger to his lips. She nodded her head towards the bathroom and started to walk over to it while taking her shirt off. When Damon walked into the bathroom, Sage was in the shower. Smirking, Damon went in with her. "I take it back, your plan is amazing."

"I told you if you got her comfortable enough, she's an open book." Sage smiled.

Damon moved closer to her. "Well, are you gonna torture me or are you gonna tell me what she's up to?"

"I'd rather show you." Sage kissed Damon and he saw the memories.

A white oak tree. There must have been a new tree to replace the old. Damon got another memory. It probably got cut down.

Do you happen to know who kept the milling ledgers during that period?

Damon broke off the kiss and looked at Sage. "There's another tree."

A while later, Damon was in the library, looking for the logging mills records, a towel still around his waist. Sage walked in with a smirk. "Milling records?"

"Our family made one of its many fortunes selling lumber. It's why Rebekah's been digging around about this stuff. That tree was on our land and milled by our yard. The ledgers will tell me where it was shipped. Business archives should be around here somewhere. Get upstairs, make sure you keep her distracted." Damon said without looking up from the log.

Damon found the milling archives and pulled out the one from 1912. He flipped through it and found where the tree was shipped to: the old Wickery Bridge.

"You gotta be kidding me!" Damon exclaimed quietly.

Alaric's Apartment

Elena walked up the stairs to Alaric's loft. She got to the top and was startled by Stefan, who was leaning against the doorframe.

"Missed you at the house. Alaric told me you'd be here." Stefan said casually.

"You made yourself perfectly clear this morning, Stefan. You don't want to be around me." Elena said. She walked over to Alaric's door and unlocked it.

"I'm not trying to hurt you, Elena. I just can't be who you want me to be right now. I'm not in control." Stefan said.

"So then, what are you doing here?" Elena walked into the apartment and Stefan followed after her.

"I uh- I did a little more digging on Samantha Gilbert." Stefan closed the door behind him and turned on the lights. "Founding families were always pretty good about destroying their records, but I found a couple of newspaper articles. It seemed she killed two people while she was in the institution. A nurse and a guard."
