Picking up your fork, you looked back down to the table after Lady Dimistrescu turned slightly to almost face you. The food on your plate was rather fancy. Perhaps a little too fancy for you. Peacock, red wine demi-glass, and- your eyes were suddenly drawn to Bela clearing her throat. Turning to look up at Lady Dimistrescu, your blood ran cold for a moment. Her fangs as she opened her mouth to take a bite built up tension in your legs to bolt away. Following her lead, you started to eat your food. "(Y/N), we came to the decision that you'll be working as a servant of Castle Dimitrescu while you stay here." Lady Dimitrescu spoke up.
Servant? What do you mean? When did this happen? I thought you were in a meeting with Heisenberg or whatever his name was?
You poked the half eaten peacock breast in front of you. "When do I start?" You asked quietly, goosebumps under your shirt began to raise. "We decided you'll start in the next couple of days. Let you get used to the layout. You'll only be cleaning a few places. Heisenberg saw your bag and Bela came up with the idea."
In a couple of days? That's not too bad.
"You're lucky to be alive, (Y/N), Heisenberg would've fetched you like a stick." Bela chuckled, shrinking in her seat under her mother's glare. "I personally think he should've." Cassandra bit, glaring at you.
This is still about me biting you, isn't it? Maybe if you didn't attack me first, I wouldn't have done so.
"Cassandra, I know you're upset. How about this... Just so we're even, you can bite me back. Will that make you happy?" You stared Cassandra down when giving the offer, unblinking and neutral in expression. "No, it'll take all the fun out..." Cassandra placed her head in her hand and continued to eat. Lady Dimistrescu glanced down to you in the corner of her eye.
You could feel her stare dig into you, like teeth grabbing and shaking you. You broke out of your fight or flight response, continuing to eat. When you finished, you looked around for the kitchen and walked over with your plate, taking care of your dish and silverware. Surely there were other people to take care of it, but it felt more natural to take care of it yourself.
Please don't be behind me, please don't be behind me...
You felt a hand cover your wrist and forearm, pulling you to face them. Then, the hand slid to your hand. You were facing Lady Dimitrescu. "You're so polite." She whispered, giving you a grin, exposing her fangs once again.
Run! Run! Run, (Y/N)! Run!!
You may have turned your whole body to face her a little too quick for your liking. "I mean, it's only natural to be nice." You tried to play it off as though it was nothing, not wanting to make it awkward. "I'll take Cassandra's offer that she didn't take." She moved her hand back to your wrist, making you look away. "I'm just taking a sip, don't worry." A small laugh came through Lady Dimitrescu's voice, then there was a painful pressure on your thenar eminence. Looking back over, instead of two holes for two fangs, there was a tiny cut. Her cold tongue washed over the small bits of blood that were forming, bringing goosebumps all over you. You couldn't go anywhere, she could easily rip your arm off.
"Delicious."
Her words, though it was obvious that she was a vampire, brought a strange comfort.
