Jacob's P.O.V.

My day sucked. Cole was back and he beat me up in the locker room in PE. I got a black eye and they shoved me into a locker. It was a half sized locker. Don't ask how I fit. Drew got me out and Maddie and Bea used their makeup to make my eye look normal. Thank God. It took my mind away from being pissed at my sister. In fact, I hadn't been as happy as I was at Maddie's house that afternoon in a long long time. I'd never seen my sister so happy before in my life.

Not going to lie, I think my sister and Demi would make a perfect couple. I mean, my sister was so happy when she won and hugged Demi, and I can see how nervous they got around each other, then how they talked when they were downstairs in the basement. They were OTP material.

We all went into Maddie's dance/aerial studio and laid on the floor. Abby had to leave for something after dinner so it was just Maddie, Drew, Kate, and me left. Abby was cool and funny, and her laugh was hilarious, but she wasn't my favorite out of the girls, probably because she didn't really talk to me that much. Then again, I sort of isolated myself.

"Hey, Jake," Drew looked at me from his spot on the floor that he had been laying. "How much time do we have left?"

"I don't know," I shrugged. "I'll go ask Ansley."

I pushed myself off the floor and ran through a mess of hallways, bumping into a large, lean figure that I realized was a person.

"Jake, was it?" The man I recognized as Maddie's dad asked with a smile.

"Yes, sir," I regained my balance.

"Have a bus to catch? You're running awfully fast," he grinned with a chuckle.

"Sorry, I was just looking for my sister," I stumbled back a little.

"It's okay, bud. That girl is in the kitchen with Demi doing dishes, actually making herself useful," he smiled, pat my head, and almost walked away.

"What the fuck, Eddie?!" Maddie's mom stood behind him with her arms out in the air and her eyes cold.

"What did I do?" He asked innocently. He turned around to face her.

"What the hell is your problem? Are you serious? Like are you blind or something? Heartless!" she growled.

"What are you talking about?" he rose an eyebrow.

"Her name is Ansley and she's a sweet girl! She's Demi's friend and she makes Demi happy, and vise versa!" Her face was red.

"No, Wilmer makes her happy. And it's not my job to know if she's happy or not, it's yours. She's not my kid," he looked to the side.

"You came into my life after her! She's my daughter for God's sake! What's gotten into you? A week ago, you'd've never spoken like that! What happened?"

"She's a bad influence! That girl is going to bring Demi back to her old habits! Do you not see that?"

"Of course, I'm worried about her, too! But that girl has brought a certain light to Demi! A light we haven't seen in a long long time, Eddie! I'm concerned about my daughter, too, but that doesn't mean you have to go dissing her friend!"

"E-excuse me?" I choked up.

They both looked at me and Maddie's mom looked like she felt guilty.

"Oh, Jacob! I'm so sorry you had to hear that! Are you okay?" She shoved past Maddie's dad and placed a warm hand on my shoulder.

"Yes ma'am. I just need to get to my sister..."

"Oh," she moved out of the way and allowed me to pass. "I'm sorry, Jacob."
