Hayden arrived at the store and hopped out of his car, then letting his daughter, Addison, out. I hadn't been expecting her to be here, but he was a single parent, what else was he supposed to do. As we got out of Demi's car, Addison smiled and skipped to Demi, hugging her knees.
"Demi!" Addison squealed.
Demi gave Hayden a strange smile, one that was confused but trying not to be.
"Sorry," Hayden leaned against the hood of my car.
Most people would be against him leaning against their hood, but I wasn't, mainly because my car was shitty anyway. About twenty minutes later, he had my car fixed and ready to go. I thanked him and he smiled.
"It was my pleasure to help you," he replied.
"Do we have to go now, Daddy?" Addison asked.
"I'm afraid so, baby girl. Come here real quick," he motioned for his daughter to go to him.
Addison slowly let go of Demi, as Demi had been holding her so she had her arms wrapped around Demi's neck, so Demi bent down and let the girl run to her dad.
He squatted, pulled her close, and whispered something into her ear. She widened her eyes and smiled. He let go of her and she looked over to us with big eyes and an adorable smile.
"Would you like to have lunch with us?" Addison asked me cheerfully.
"Uh..." I looked over at Demi and she looked back at me, not saying anything. It was my choice alone. Of course. "We probably shouldn't, but thank you, though."
"Aww!" Addison frowned.
"Aww," repeated Hayden as he stood up straight. "Come on, please? I'll pay..."
"Hayden, I don't know-" I began to turn him down again but Demi interrupted me.
"Ans," she held my arm tightly as I turned my focus to her, "it's okay. You can."
"Okay," I sighed but then lifted my finger. "Under one condition, though. Can Demi come with?"
"Ans..." Demi shook her head.
"Please," I begged her. "I want you to come, too."
Hayden gave a slightly disappointed look but immediately smiled, holding his arms up in a duh expression. Demi's smile fell in a saddened expression.
"Of course. I don't mind," his smile was fake but I ignored it.
"Thank you. Where to?" I asked.
"Anywhere," he shrugged.
"There's an Applebee's right around the corner," Demi suggested.
"That works for me," Hayden nodded. "See you there. Come on, Addison. Let's go."
Hayden and Addison climbed into their truck and started driving to Applebee's.
"Want to go in one car or two?" Demi asked.
"One to save gas?"
"Okay. Let's go," she got in on the driver's side and I got in on the passenger side.
Demi's P.O.V.
After we got in, both of us buckled and I started the car, following Hayden's truck to the restaurant. As I was driving, I shook my head and sighed before speaking.
