Sam's POV
"Baxter, show her your wolf," I said as Steven looked at me like I was crazy.
Baxter looked at Steven before he stood. "Umm, okay, if you think that's the best way to go about this," he said as he started lifting his shirt, showing all of us his muscular ads.
"Excuse me!" Steven yelled jumping up. "Baxter stop. This isn't a good idea at all. Showing her the thing she's scared of the most? Are you both crazy?" He yelled at us both before turning to Baxter again. "And Baxter, come on, she's 13 let's not do that in front of her."
"Right, sorry," he huffed and put his head down, along with his shirt.
"Why not? It worked for me. The first time I saw one shift I was scared shitless but when Emmett-," I stopped as I felt my face grow hot while Emmett flooded my mind but shook it off quickly, getting a weird look from Baxter. "I- I mean when I saw one up close in a more gentle way it let me see how beautiful and incredible they were. I wasn't scared anymore, at least not of him," I looked down feeling the sadness take over me as that memory replayed in my mind. "Once I released it was him inside that wolf, I felt the fear just wash away. How could I be scared after he saved my life like that? I... I just felt this feeling of warmth and happiness run through me as I touched his black fur and this smell that I only smelled around him hit my nose. I just knew it was still the same person in there and if she could see that you're not some scary wolf that's going to hurt her like the others did and that you're still the same Baxter in there as when you're human then I know she won't be so scared of you. Isn't that what you both want?" I asked, trying to plead with them both.
Baxter tilted his head to the side slightly and was about to say something but Steven walked over to Lexi and took her hand as he sat down next to her. "You saw others?"
She nodded her head.
"And they... hurt you?" He couldn't stop the tears that started to fall. Baxter stepped forward like he wanted to comfort him but couldn't as Steven took her hands.
She looked at him threw her overflowing tears and nodded again.
I watched as Steven broke down for a moment before he peeked around at us and cleared his throat as he tried to hold back more. "Did they... hurt you like... like HE did?" He asked, sitting up straight. I could tell he was trying to keep it together.
Her hands tightened around his. She looked at me and Baxter for a moment like she didn't want to answer with us there but then shook her head a little before lightly punching her upper arm.
"They hit you? That's all they did?"
She nodded a little but he pulled her into his arms and let a few more tears fall. His eyes were glazed over and red by the time he opened them again and kissed the top of her head.
He looked a little relieved by her answer though. It made me question what could be been worse than getting beaten by wolf shifts at such a young and fragile age to make him look relieved to hear that was all they did. But then a voice came to me that I would be better off not knowing what HE did that was worse.
"Do you think you can handle this idea? Seeing Baxter like that, I mean. If you don't want to do that then we won't but if that's what you want to do then... then I guess that's fine... Like Sam said, you're not a baby anymore so the choice is yours but I don't want you to do something you don't want to. Just tell me yes or no and no one will be mad if you don't want to."
Lexi looked over at me and then peeked at Baxter before looking back at Steven and nodded her head once.
With a sigh, Steven stood up and looked at Baxter defeated. We could all clearly see that wasn't the answer he wanted. "I guess if you think this would be a good idea too then this is what we will do but please change in the room and we will wait out here."
Baxter nodded and walked out of the room.
Lexi stood between us in the living room at the end of the hall. Before long we could hear the sound of bones breaking all at once, making Lexi jump at the short growl from the room and step back a little.
"It's okay Lexi," Steven told her as he hugged her tighter. "Just remember that it's still Baxter and he's not going to hurt you at all. He really cares about you." He smiled softly at her before Baxter started to walk out of the room.
He was really big, maybe the same size as Emmett if I remembered right. His eyes were glowing a deep red and his fur was all different shades of browns that even covered his face and pointed ears. He was a beautiful wolf. Looking wider with muscle but seeing it in front of me made everything flashback. Running down the alley scared, blood covered my body and the cold that surrounded me from the heavy rainfall.
I couldn't help but shake a little as Lexi's grip tightened on my shirt as he walked closer but before he got to the end of the hall that he just barely fit down he stopped as his ears dropped with his head. Before I knew it he was laying down and the image of Emmett's black wolf and blue eyes came before me as he slowly inched his way closer.
It was the same thing Emmett did to me, trying to look as least threatening as he could but all I could see was Emmett at that moment. The way he gently nudged my foot with his huge black paw and the way my heart jumped the moment I knew it was him.
In my haze, my eyes watered as regret filled my whole body. The need to see and smell his scent took over faster than ever before. It felt like my heart broke all over again as I pictured the look of shock in his eyes before he went flying across the room, the look of fear on his face just before the doors closed leaving that look to be the last thing to remember of him.
I jumped out of my own head as something cold and wet touched my hand and looked down to see Baxter nudging my hand before licking it. Lexi couldn't take her eyes off him as her shaking hand touched his soft fur and he let her do that without looking that way to try not to scare her while he let her think his attention was on me.
I looked over to see Steven talking to her as he ran his hands threw the thick brown fur to show her it was okay as she watched him before I rubbed the top of his head. I can't believe I got myself so lost in my own thoughts that I almost missed this moment completely and smiled at them.
I could tell she was still trying hard to be brave and still a little unsure before Baxter groaned and playfully flopped over to his side, almost knocking Steven over since he was crouched down next to Lexi. He rolled on his back wagging his big fluffy tail in utter delight as Lexi giggled a little and Steven started rubbing his belly like Baxter wasn't this massive wolf in the living room but a playful puppy.
It didn't take long before Lexi too was on the floor scratching him making his back leg kick once or twice before he made a playful low bark and rolled to the side licking Lexi's face.
She immediately froze with wide eyes but didn't move. He rubbed his head against her cheek like he was nudging her to play or pet him more. I could tell he loved the attention she and Steven were giving him though as I smiled and backed into the kitchen.
This was something they needed to do as a family together and I was just an outsider who only nudged them in the right direction.

Awe! That was heartwarming. So happy it worked out for them. I know Steven was really against it at first but he was just trying to protect her and it really didn't help that he was completely caught off guard. Poor Sam though, being away from Emmett for so long is starting to get to him. So sad.
