Emmett's POV

Stacking down the streets, not one of us saw life, which made my gut turn unease. Where were they all? Shadow informed me yesterday that the Wolf Spiders were in the streets, but their campsites were found cold. The packhouse was growing closer. We should have run into someone by now. Looking over to Geo, he had the same look of confusion.

"Didn't you tell me you met with a crow from here? Where is everyone? I sense nothing," he whispered.

"Something had to have happened. Sage. Any word?" I ask the brown wolf close behind us, knowing he had a link back home with his mate and the rest of the pack here with us, but the large wolf only shook his head.

Zack, Sage's mate Kai, and the other trackers from Vincent's pack were on guard there. If something happened Sage would be the first to know, but I still couldn't stop my inner voice screaming at me to go home. My stomach twisted at the thought.

"Movement," I heard a witch whisper. We all stilled in the street, but the smell of my old pack hit my nose with the changing wind.

"Trying for a sneak attack?" I heard my father's voice as they came in sight from around the street corner.

I was ready to signal for an attack, but looking into the eyes of most of my old pack stopped me. They were scared, tails down with their eyes. How could I fight them like this?

"You don't have to do this," I told them. "A few have fled across the border already and are all safe. The ones here with me are only here by choice. If you stand down now, you will be unharmed. You have my word as Alpha," I pleaded with them. Their blood wasn't worth shedding here tonight if they didn't want to stay under his role. "This fight isn't yours if you don't want it to be."

I saw a few wolves glance around at each other. I knew they didn't want to fight, but the scent of fear only raised.

"They can't!" I heard Viv yell over them before she jumped from behind Revere. I could see the fresh bruising and cracked lip from where I stood. It was nearly impossible to hold back the anger. "He's holding their families-"

Revere turned to the side, smacking her in the face. Her yelp as she was thrown to the ground by the force of his hand made everyone there stiffen, holding back from lunging at the one who hurt their omega, all but Mason, who jumped a few steps in a deadly growl. Felix was quick to react by stopping him.

"This is why my father must be stopped now. He uses fear to control you and hurts your omega. That's not a true leader, but I see you. I see who stands with me over there, and I will not harm you. I challenge-"

Suddenly, Sage whined next to me, his legs nearly buckling underneath his large wolf, and a few others followed as I looked around, stunned by what was happening. Sage suddenly shifted human, trembling and gasping for air. "No! Kai!"

Revere started laughing. "I knew about your plans of coming here today. Should have left more warriors at home," he yelled before shifting.

No. They were at the pack house. But how? How did they sneak past us?

I didn't have time to think as wolves began howling for the attack. I shifted. There was nothing I could do for Sam and the others with the fighting starting here, but I knew someone who could.

Dodging and fighting over, I found Markus not far, ripping a wolf's head off. Giving him a pleading whine and looking back toward the direction of Vincent's packhouse, he nodded. Either way, they needed help back there. There was no way to know how many or who my father sent to the house, but well over half of our fighters were here.

"I'll take care of it." That was all he said before he and a few other vampires vanished.

They were the fastest among us. I could only hope they made it before too much damage was done. I knew we should have turned back, but it was too late.
