Steven's POV

It was getting late, Baxter stopping texting me hours ago and I was getting worried as I looked at my phone on the table for the hundredth time. He just got me this phone a few days ago since we didn't have a way to communicate when he was gone. He thought it would be best so he could keep me updated if things changed while he was working at the pack house.

Lexi walked over looking worried as well as the sun started to set.

"Where are they?" She signed.

I shrugged looking at my phone again. "I don't know. He hasn't texted back yet. How about we watch one more movie? If they aren't back by then I'll call the pack house and see if maybe they stopped there," I told her, looking up with a smile to try and act like nothing was wrong. The only other numbers on my phone besides Baxter's was his brother Vincent and the pack house. Just in case anything happened I could call them but just the thought of talking to someone so close to Baxter like his brother made me nervous since we haven't met yet.

Lexi and I walked into the living room and sat down on the couch as I began looking through the movie section. Nothing seemed to jump out at me but then again my mind was elsewhere.

What could be taking them so long that they couldn't call or text me back? Something didn't feel right. I couldn't keep myself calm and the spot on my neck where Baxter bit me last week had a weird soreness since his last text and I couldn't stop rubbing it. It was really uncomfortable.

Suddenly there was a hard knock at the door making me jump before I looked over at Lexi. I wasn't expecting anyone besides Baxter and Sam but why would they knock?

Nervously, I got up as they knocked again harder and walked towards the door. "Just stay there Lexi," I told her as she started slowly getting up with wide eyes in fear. "It's fine. It's just someone selling something or maybe it's Sam and Baxter and they just lost their keys," I said, seeing how she was nervously stepping back farther away.

Unlocking the door, I opened it to find a man with white hair and glowing dark red eyes looking down at me. He looked just like Baxter in the face but slightly thinner and more clean-shaved. But when our eyes met it sent chills down my spine. Fear took hold as I stepped back and he stepped into the house uninvited but I couldn't look away from his eyes. It's like they had some kind of hold on me.

"Where is he?" The man asked, stopping just inches from me. His voice was calm but his body was tense and he had a hateful look in his deep blood-red eyes.

"W- who?" I asked in a shaky voice. My mind felt blank from the fear that took over everything in me.

"My brother. He's not here so tell me where he is. Now," he demanded, taking another step towards me. His eyes grew an even darker shade of red.

"I- I don't kn- know," I answered as best as I could. My whole body was shaking under his gaze and my heart pounded fast against my chest. I couldn't think straight.

He took another step closer, making me hit the side of the couch and jump a little as he started to growl at me. "You better have a more clear-," he started before a soft and gentle hand laid on his shoulder cutting off his words as he looked over sharply.

"Calm yourself, my love," a woman said, stepping out from behind him. "Do you think Baxter would want you here scaring his mate or do you think he would want us to help him and keep him safe?" She asked but turned to me with a smile.

She was beautiful, with long yellow blonde hair but what stood out the most was her eyes. They were solid white but it felt like she was looking right at me. A wave of calm washed over me and I could feel my heart slow as I started thinking clearly again.
