Steven's POV

"I... I didn't mean to do that," he said as he quickly grabbed a wash rag and pressed it over the bite wound. It made me hiss in pain but the thought of him not wanting to mark me hurt even more. "I was starting to lose control, it just felt so good and you smelled even more... I was about to mark you but stopped myself and bit into your shoulder without thinking," he started to explain as he walked over to the med cabinet. He quickly came back with a bandage and cleaning wipes.

"S- so this wasn't marking?" I asked, looking down in disappointment. I felt like crying.

"A mark would be here," he touched the back of my neck and pinched slightly. It sent a warm tingle down my spine, my eyes rolled back but I couldn't move my body. "At the nape of the neck. The wound would have healed almost instantly after I licked it but since you're human and it wasn't a real mark, it didn't heal. I'm so sorry Steven," he said, cleaning the wounds. "I didn't mean to hurt you."

"Well it- it did hurt a lot at first but the harder you bit down the better it felt. I thought you were marking me," I said keeping my head down.

He finished putting the bandage on and lifted my head by putting his finger under my chin gently. "It felt good because you are my mate, your body wants it, it feels our bond and... I think I may have bit down a little too close. But that's why we grew so close in a small amount of time to you humans. For us wolves, we are actually taking it slow. We usually mate and mark the same night we find each other."

I turned my eyes away from him since he was still holding my head up to look at him. I felt like I was failing him for how long I've made him wait. "I'm... I'm sorry."

"Baby boy, there is nothing to be sorry for, I'm more than happy to wait until we can all be a family," he told me and peaked my lips. "You will bear my full mark for all to see when Lexi comes around to me just like we've talked about."

I felt like a prince after that as Baxter set me down on the sink counter and dried my hair as best as he could. I smiled, enjoying my hair being played with and nuzzled into his chest. He then carried me out to the bedroom.

By then we were dried off as we laid down, still naked, in bed and cuddled with each other tightly. I closed my eyes to the sound of his steady beating heart and smiled as our fingers linked together slowly. A feeling my fingers could never get enough of.

"I've been wanting to do this for a long time," Baxter told me, making me look up to see the most loving smile on his face.

It made my smile grow even more just knowing Baxter wanted this just as much as I did. "Me too."

We snuggled closer together if that was possible and without another minute to waste, sleep started to take over. The last thing I remembered was feeling Baxter lightly kiss the top of my head and hearing a sweet whisper of an, "I love you," before the world drifted away.

My eyes fluttered open to look at the window in the back of the room as I did every morning. I found it odd though, normally the sun came in that window to wake me with the rest of the world and I didn't remember them saying anything about rain on the News.

It was a habit I developed after Lexi and I ran away to wake up early. Even now, knowing we were in a safe house and out of harm's way, I still found it hard to break.

An arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me from my wonder as I was pulled back. I turned around in joy to see that Baxter and I had shared our bed all night. I wanted to see him first thing in the morning just like this.
