Sam's POV

After the shock of finding out I was a member born into the Crescent Moon pack and my uncle was the former alpha of that pack. I asked him what had happened to my parents.

Elder Aaron told me how my father was one of the strongest leaders he had known, and my mother was the bravest warrior wolf in his pack. They found out she was pregnant with a girl. My mother was so happy to hear the news of a daughter that she planned a gathering to share the excitement. Sadly on our there, we were in a car accident.

When the pack arrived, my father had been shot in the chest and his head torn off. My mother was dead outside the back door where my car seat was. Her stomach was torn apart, and her neck broken. I was nowhere to be found.

It was an attack from another wolf pack. They searched for me for months with no luck. Aaron never stopped looking, but with nothing to go on, the scents and trails all grew cold, and he began to believe I was dead and never coming back.

However, I remember parts of my past now that my memory is returning. The family I was living with was human, but once they found me in wolf form, they told me I was a monster. I remember the beatings, and the closet they would lock me in when they had guests over. Ironically, it was the same closest Samuel was locked behind in my nightmares.

They took me to many human doctors to try and stop me from shifting in fear, but they needed the checks they got for caring for me from the state. By the time I turned eight years old, they found their way to the hunters. With a check in hand and large smiles on their faces, they left me there, but I still don't remember much about my time in that place. The pain in my head would stop me from trying. I took it as a sign that Samuel didn't want me to remember for a reason.

The whole time Arron and I talked, Emmett sat in the corner of the room, watching us or stepping out for a moment, but Baxter or Mason would be in the room with us when he did leave. It was for the Elder's safety. They didn't say it, but I knew that was the reasoning.

But it's been a few days since I woke, and Samuel hardly showed signs he was there. They even moved me to the pack house in a room close to the prison cells.

Emmett was so busy that he was hardly there with me. I understood the reasoning, but we didn't have much time to spend together, and it didn't help my want for him by my side.

"I need to leave for a few days," Emmett said, getting my attention as I lay on the bed.

"What?" I asked as I just up and grabbed his arm. "Why?" I couldn't help the worry that ran through my body.

I thought moving here would give us a little more time together, but he was leaving me here alone for a few days? Why?

He took a deep breath and sat down on the bed with me. "I need to see the Hunter's Council and explain what happened."

My heart dropped as I heard that. "Emmett, please don't leave," I begged him, pulling him closer.

He leaned forward to kiss my forehead. "I'll be fine. Someone has to stop Vincent from starting a war, and I have more than enough evidence to prove that we acted just as they would if it was the other way around. The Shifter's Council will also be there. I already sent them all the pictures, witness statements, and hard drives we took from the place, so they fully understand our actions too."

"But... What about everything that's going on here? What if..., what if I shift while you're gone?"

My body started to tremble at the thought. No one would tell me what happened when I shifted or blacked out before Emmett got there, but the look they gave me before avoiding my questions made me scared of knowing the answers. It made me fear shifting and blacking out again.
