Secretarial Duties

"Should I just give them to him? I mean... I'm his secretary so I should be the one to give them to him, right?"

Clutching the folder to my chest, somewhere in my mind I registered that this was way too much fuss to make over what couldn't have been more than four pages of some minorly important political information, but thoughts such as that didn't necessarily do much to stop my confusion or the incessant movement of my feet across the wooden panels.

With a huff, I held the folder out in front of me and tried to project as much confidence as I could muster, "Here you go, Lord Hokage, these are from the Cloud. Lord Raikage says that he'd like to discuss possible aid with reconstruction after their- No..." I pulled the folder back to me, taking a breath and re-extending it in a more relaxed manner, "Lord Hokage, these are from the Cloud..." Sighing aloud, my arms dropped, the folder now hanging lightly from my hand and the documents just a precarious moment away from falling out, "Am I being too formal? Maybe I should have someone else deliver them."

"Or..." Sasuke rolled over on the couch, startling me as I'd admittedly completely forgotten he was there, "You could stop overthinking it and just give them to him." He propped his head in a bored hand, sprawled out over the piece of furniture like this was his office or something.

"But how should I give them to him!?" I threw my hands up in exasperation, the folder and the papers within it going flying along with my temper. Pulling a lock of hair forward, I began wringing it and resumed my frantic pacing, "I know what you're going to say, but I can't do it 'normally' anymore."

Sasuke's eyes followed the slow descent of one of the papers to the floor, letting his head hang over the edge of the cushions as it touched down, "But why not? You're acting like Kiba; there's no reason to overthink handing some papers to Sensei." I was silent, not certain as to how I could possibly put words to what I was feeling or why this was suddenly so difficult for me, and Sasuke frowned at the lack of response, sitting back up, "C'mon, what happened to your impulsiveness? I'm surprised you haven't laid yourself across his desk all flirtatiously or whatever."

I ignored how Sasuke had reclined himself back on the couch in a mock demonstration of how I'd probably do so, blushing madly at something that would have once been so easy for me to do, "I-I can't do that!" A spluttering mess, I ran around the room to scoop the documents back up and return them to their folder, "I-I should just ask one of the ANBU to deliver it!"

Sasuke picked up the last paper, holding it out to me with an unimpressed glare, "Why are you being weird?"
"How am I not supposed to be weird!?" I huffed, plucking the parchment from his hand and sliding it into place, "I died, Sasuke," his face fell slightly, hand lowering back to the couch as I turned away slightly, staring out the window at nothing in particular, "He- I- A lot has happened, and we haven't worked through much of it, even from when I was gone, and then this, and then..." I could feel my face becoming red once again; I still couldn't even consider the possibility that he liked me without feeling like I was going to pass out a giggling mess.

Folding his arms under his head, Sasuke lowered his chin into them, now also gazing pointlessly out the window, "Things'll never go back to normal if you don't let them though, and I can't imagine your job's going to get any easier if you're so scared to talk to him over a folder."

"It's not ju- I-" I stomped in place, frustration building once again. I couldn't just tell Sasuke there was something between me and Kakashi because I still wasn't certain that Kakashi would be safe from the consequences, "I-"

"Chicken." Sasuke stated disinterestedly, rolling onto his back and closing his eyes.

My own narrowed at him, "Excuse me?"
