"Remind me why I agreed to this again." Oliver deadpanned with closed eyes as the cool mask was placed over his face by the ginger girl on her knees.
The two were on the floor of Sara's living room (by demand of her father since the pair had finally established a relationship), in front of a table full of junk food and sodas with a series up and ready to binge on the TV. The girl had somehow managed to convince him to do face masks with her, tying up his hair that hung over his face and lowering the sheet onto his skin carefully.
"Because you LoOoOvE me," she said teasingly in satisfaction, only for him to say back, "unfortunately so."
"Rude," she smacked his shoulder once the mask was safely settled and she pulled her fingers back, her own mask residing on her face as well.
"You know I'm kidding," he said softly as he opened his eyes and let a smile peek through, turning his head as the girl sat criss-crossed beside him with crossed arms and a huff.
When she continued jokingly pouting he studied her face before shuffling closer, pressing their legs against one another. She ignored him still, making him nudge her arm with his elbow. Still getting no response he pulled one of her hands from her other arm, lacing their fingers together. She didn't necessarily fight it, though she didn't overtly react, however he could see the blush rising to her face through the holes in the mask.
He shrugs, letting go of her hand, "I guess if you don't wanna talk I'll just have to keep aaaall these snacks to myself."
Reaching a hand out to the table to grab a package from the table, a smaller daintier one smacks it, making him retreat with a smirk as he wrapped an arm around her shoulder, "I knew that would work."
"No one gets between me and my snacks," she says firmly, finally looking at him with a serious face that he just couldn't truly take seriously.
Oliver chuckles, grabbing the remote and hitting the play button as the screen lights up with the introduction. As soon as the show began playing, Sara was already tearing into a bag of chips, shovelling him in her mouth as though it were the last thing she'd do while Oliver looked on affectionately. Her eyes remained focused on the screen and the flashing lights and visuals on it as he watched her be her beautiful unfiltered self. Feeling the eyes burning into her, Sara turns with a mouth full of food and gives a wide grin with closed eyes for a brief moment under the mask before looking back in front of her.
After another moment of soft loving eyes staying locked on her, he finally breaks his gaze and focuses on the screen, rubbing a soothing hand on the shoulder his arm rested on. This leads her to lean in closer, turning her body to face away from him slightly and laying her head back underneath his arm by the side of his chest. She relaxes with a deep sigh, smiling to herself and adoring the way he played with the fingers on the hand she rested on his knee.
For the entirety of the afternoon the two remain like this with the occasional commentary during their binge-watch of the creepy show on the TV, crinkle of snack packages, or interjection of Sara's dad checking in on them. For all the time and struggle it had taken for them to find one another, they both found themselves more than satisfied for all the effort to have brought them to that moment of calm.
