Nerves

"Thanks," Sara Lin murmured, a small grateful smile given to the boy who had held the door for her.

Giving a small nod in return to acknowledge her thank-you, Oliver released the door handle that entered into the stairway. As the pair silently walked up the staircase, Sara's heart rate increased; could she really do this?

No, she had been planning this for weeks, there was no backing out now. She had worked up all this nerve, it would be a waste to let it fizzle out because of... Well, nerves.

Upon exiting the stairwell, they ended up in front of the library, and just before going their own separate ways, the girl impulsively took a gentle grip on his wrist, blurting out, "Wait!"

The blond looked at her in confusion as she released him, seeming incredibly flustered as she questioned hesitantly, "Can I just... Ask a dumb question real quick....?"

"Yeah, sure," he turned to face her fully, awaiting her next words, albeit confused by her anxious appearance.

For a moment, the redhead stops, taking a deep, shaky breath in while closing her eyes, trying to regain her composure (and her ability to actually breath, considering she had lost that within the last few seconds). Once she sighs out the breath, she reopens her eyes, locking her gaze with his and trying to feign some sense of confidence.

"If you're interested at all..." She began, speaking slowly in an attempt to work through her words without stumbling or stuttering and to make sure she was actually comprehensible to him, "Would you maybe want to go on a date with me?"

Following this is utter silence.

By the look on Oliver's face, it's clear that this was the last thing he had expected from the girl, eyes wide in pure surprise as he continued trying to process this, humming a small, "Uhh..."

Sara felt her confidence wavering, the butterflies more reminiscent of wasps buzzing along in her stomach at that point.

With his lack of a response (primarily due to the shock, though Sara, in her nervous state, interpreted it as hesitation), after a few seconds of waiting, the older girl quickly sputtered out, "If you want to take some time to think on it that's totally okay too...!"

Though, being blinded by her own embarrassment, she ended up drowning out his eventual reply of "Yeah, sure," which he had begun to say at the exact same moment that her mouth began moving faster than her brain with her offer of thinking time.

And before he could reply with his true "yes" upon her finishing her offer, the girl's panic overtook her, just ready for this to be over and deciding for him that this would be answered later and spitting out all in one breath, "Alright just let me know later OKTHANKSBYE!!"

As she said this, she quickly turned on her heel, gripping the strap of her bag tightly, speedwalking to get away as quickly as possible while avoiding looking dumb by running. Even with only speedwalking, though, she ended up having to tone it down, considering the mints she had forgotten were in her bag could be heard audibly rattling throughout the whole hallway.

"Uh... Y-Yeah, o-okay....." The boy said back with quite the flustered tone to his voice, only just barely loud enough for Sara to even hear him, hands wringing at his own backpack straps as well now.

As Oliver began turning to walk to his own class, his own heart now racing as well, as soon as Sara knew she was out of view and out of earshot, she leaned against the nearest wall, hand smacking her forehead and feeling all around her exceptionally warm cheeks. Despite the fact that all in all, she'd say it had gone quite well, she couldn't help but feel like just a little bit of an idiot, groaning slightly at herself before continuing to her class, face still bright red.

Almost the exact moment she had sat down at her desk, a small ding echoed from her phone, and with another minute or so before class would begin, she pulled out the device, tapping on the incoming text, only for a wide smile to spread across her face and her heart to flutter uncontrollably.

"You didn't give me the chance to say yes.

Are you free Friday at 6?"

Hey y'all!
This is yet another fic based on real life, lol.... One thing that I left out of the "Platonic" Cuddles series for the sake of simplicity and not throwing in too many details, was that in the real life counterpart of part 2, when he was laying in my lap I was curious who all in the friend group that I had invited would be going to the homecoming dance in a few weeks, so I asked around, and ended up finding out, while he was laying in my lap, that him and I were the only two who intended on going. now WHAT IN THE WATTPAD KINDA STUFF IS THAT. I started thinking about asking him to go with me, and ended up doing it a few weeks later, and this is what that story is based on! I was like "if you're still interested in going to homecoming, would you maybe want to go with me?" and yes i did accidentally interrupt him saying "yeah sure" with my "if you want to think about it" panic lol- I did not then proceed to leave mid-interaction tho, I processed that he had said that, but he seemed slightly relieved after I offered him the chance to think because apparently he just wasn't sure if he was going anymore so i was like "yeah that's fine...! Just lemme know, ok?" and then a few days later i saw him buying his ticket and re-asked for clarity and no miscommunication, and i ended up getting friendzoned LOL i just needed to give Olivara a happier ending here obv-

This is also based on this drawing that I drew with that homecoming interaction in mind!
