"You can do this Oliver....." The blond boy sighed to himself, trying to calm down his rapid heart rate.
With Christmas rapidly approaching, Joe had insisted on hosting a holiday party with the intention of inviting their friends to occupy the 19th of December. Though their circle wasn't exactly huge, they still planned on having a great time.
Oliver Yang was no Grinch and didn't mind getting in on the festivities, but he wasn't nearly as upbeat about the holidays as some others. Take his brother, Joe, for example. For the last two weeks, he had been running all around the house blasting Christmas carols and singing along loudly, rivaling the volume of even Mr. Lin's classic rock.
Though Oliver had been willing to host a party despite not being the biggest fan of social gatherings, getting dressed into a Christmas sweater and all, that hadn't been enough for an eager Joe, who had been frantically making last-minute preparations to their already fully decked-out house all day. After only a small bit of arguing, Oliver gave in, knowing his arguments were futile, putting on the reindeer-antler-and-ear headband and red nose Joe had insisted on.
"At least I don't look like a COMPLETE idiot....." he muttered to himself as he adjusted the antlers and looked at himself in the mirror.
The entire day he had been anxiety-ridden at the idea of four more people than usual in the apartment, even if he was at least familiar with them. Above all, he was nervous to see Sara Lin. Knowing the beautifully overly-cheerful and adorably excitable redhead, she would go all out for the holidays much like Joe. Heck, they had even been in both apartments together for decorating purposes since back in early November before Thanksgiving was even within a week's reach.
He had already established a while ago that he had a massive crush on the girl, because after a while of trying to push it down and simply ignore the feelings in hopes that they'd go away, he eventually realized there was no shooing this away. After coming to terms with his feelings and the fact that they were there to stay, his next step was to cope with it, which he hadn't exactly mastered yet.
"OLIVERRRRRRR," an excited Joe came bounding into their room with an ear-to-ear smile on his face and elf hat on his head.
The younger tried to shake off the blush that had appeared at the thought of the girl across the hall, looking at his older brother, "uh, h-hey, what's up?"
Practically bouncing up and down, he spoke eagerly, "I need your help finding somewhere to put one last decoration!!"
"Of course you do, there's probably no space left with all the other decorations," he chuckled, following him out to the living room to see what it was he needed to place.
Walking into the heavily-decorated room with him, he spoke again, looking around and seeing nothing, "so uh, what was it you needed help finding space for again?"
His brother's smile only widened as he quickly walked over to the kitchen table, delicately grabbing something small, concealing it from Oliver's view, confusing the boy. Cupping the small object in his hands, he turned and walked over to Oliver, uncovering it once he was in front of him for him to see, the young boy's eyes widening.
"Is that-" "Yep, mistletoe!!" Joe said enthusiastically, cutting him off and trying not to laugh at Oliver's bewilderment.
"Aren't we a bit young for that?!"
"No way, me and everyone coming are 18 and you're only a few months away from it so I'd say it's about time we get in on this tradition, cuz if anything we're late!"
